"Knowing who you are is the marketing dollar. Unfortunately, the streaming platform and social media are so tightly controlled that you can barely get heard unless you're willing to make a fool of yourself by creating content or have thousands of dollars for the promo and marketing budget."

I’m a white guy who fell in love with hip hop at a young age, at 15 I fell into drugs heavy and didn’t find a way out until I was almost 20. I’m 27 now 7+ years clean and hip hop has been apart of th process through and through. Hearing Marcos story on this one hit home. Masta ace was one of th first rappers I heard that turned me onto hiphop a long time ago and man he’s gotten even better! Hiphop like life itself is beautifully imperfect.. the progression from th ogs both mentally and musically is inspiring. Emcees like I had access to growing up saved a lot of us, simple as that

Well of course they’re lazy listeners, particularly in New York!! Rap “hip hop” fans in New York have been blindly listening to Rap/“hip hop” FOLKLORE for the past 40 years. The representatives of New York Rap/“hip hop” are a Dominican ex-stripper/ hot girl and a Dominican red head Little Annie look a like😂 What a shame. New York ain’t serious no more😂 The Fat white Hispanic fat Joe is now considered a Rap/“hip hop” god in New York today and Puerto Ricans are now “creators” of Rap/“hip hop” music and culture😂 This $hit is a joke!!

I say this all the time: there's damn near TOO much new good music out there. I worry about how much I'm missing; but like Ace said, I find shit from last week I never heard, from two years ago I never heard, and from 25-30 years ago I never heard.

Facts. No one wants to research anymore. They rely on social media and radio to learn about music. The bad side to that is there's no support or proper platforms catering to older Hip Hop heads outside of listening to new music from older artists.

Speaking to our generation (I'm about to be 53 next month) regarding searching for good Hip Hop music that's out there. IMHO and in my experience it sometimes comes down to the use of technology. A lot or should I say most of the cats I grew up with didn't finish school. They was in the streets for years doing the same thing and technology was moving past them. Never even bothered to learn HOW to use a computer. There's a level of intimidation. I've seen dudes turn down jobs when they found out they had to apply online. It's a real thing. I put my whole former hood up on Griselda early. They couldn't believe there was shit like that out there! Dudes was still depending on the radio. I would say it's a little better now because of the phones being so prevalent. They are almost forced into new technology now. Some still using flips and push buttons though 😂😂

I'm the same age as Ace and I agree with him. Back in the late 70's through the mid to late 80's you had to actively look for rap music. YES! radio was playing rap on regular rotation, but what they played was only the tip of the iceberg. There was no internet, but we did have college radio and independent stations and of course the clubs. They would play everything radio wasn't. As a matter of fact a lot of artist & songs got major radio spins because of those other options. The streets really were in charge of what was hot and what wasn't. Now rap music is EVERYWHERE! ...while the music itself still can make you dance. The lyrical skills are non existent; and the content of those lyrics are straight BULLSHIT! There's no quality control in rap music anymore. ...anything goes.

No diversity either that's where we were spoiled because nobody sounded a like different creativity different styles when it went to commercial and the play for pay it changed as well also they tried to and still do try to say the your too old and we let those who don't really know the culture that this is further from the truth but we allow people to dictate what's acceptable just accepting wack content lyrics to not be accused of being a hater or mad because of fame or the financial gain or being blackballed if you are in the industry and also what they push and promote but the game has changed as far as big labels being the only avenue but it still goes to the fans of what you listen to more so what you want to hear and listen to
