Major sense memory for the smell of balsa cement from back in my early days of 40k scenery builds! (I know you didn't use balsa cement but just seeing balsa wood bought it all back 😄 )

This is what gaijin is building right now using our souls as building blocks

There will be a gap due to the resin shrinking when it's cured ...some resin will shrink up to 8% ...abs like photoploymer shrinks by 2%

That is an amazing model. I kinda want to print one myself now but the time required must be immense with 1 printer.

It's not too bad. I've printed a few lodges, full sized, from them on my smaller resin printer. It is usually is in 12 or so prints, each taking about 7 hours. So about a week of print time for me, starting a job at night, letting it run. Then starting a new job in the morning. The main thing is it's so big an airbrush is needed, or it'll take forever to paint.

@@michaelbycraft6274 That is a nice time for a resin. I'm more so afraid of FDM since it is so big. I know there are settings and whatnot to increase speed, but still, a statue I have about 3-inch square and 6 inches tall took about 18 hours at .2 "fine" settings. I guess something this size would be fine for rougher settings thought, especially the shell with filler. Sorry, just thinking out loud while processing the times you listed.

@@RoseKindred Sorry, I misunderstood. I have a few FDM/PLA printers and they are slooooooowwwww to get detail. They end up looking great (the Ultimaker especially) but they do take forever. I don't know if I could wait for this kinda model from those printers. Maybe you could print the inside as mostly hollow and that might go quicker? Good luck. It might end up being quicker to get it if you order it from etsy or something haha

A cool idea with this guy could've been, since you have so much space inside, to put a batter pack connected to some small LDS lights and put them around the buildings to make a nice ambient on the "fortress" as if dozens of torches are lit and it would make the playing space a lot more visible.

Gotta do a second one so you can have a showdown between 2 desert raiding orc pirate crews. And while those that fall off might not "technically" drown theyre effectively out of the fight because theres no way to get back onto either snail while the battle rages on. One does not simply climb onto a snail.

Sounds like we're going through a similar spell. I haven't painted or done any hobby for about a month!

It needs some blue paint for stealth so no one on the battle field can see it coming. Or red for the speed.

Really nice great job, though I think it suits grots or maybe even snotlings more than orks. They never get it quite right, so a snail that doesn't keep trying to eat them like a squig....... any grot would go for that
