Massive sinkhole swallows part of Illinois park

A park in Illinois is closed after a massive sinkhole opened up in the middle of a soccer field Wednesday.
The hole is estimated to be at least 100 feet wide and up to 50 feet deep, the Alton Parks and Recreation Department Director Michael Haynes told KMOV.
Footage from the department shows one of the stadium lights at Gordon Moore City Park being sucked in.

This doesn't have anything to do with weather. It's abandoned move shafts, tunnels from underground rails etc. They happen to be all over the untied States. Coastal states are vulnerable due to water erosion. Any place you've had underground rails, and mines of all kinds. The only thing that weather would have to do with it would be to finally wear away at the upper crust and make it collapse and that would take eons. I'm afraid of sink holes, especially the ones that open up in places like Florida. It's like an abyss. Others that happen where mining is/was common happen and we were don't even know about it because they are so remotely located, unless you go those locations you'd not know they caved in. But that's not weather.

Well technically it isn't a sinkhole, it is a hole caused by a cave-in/collapse from a mine shaft... they musta needed some light down there!! lol Thank God nobody was on the field!
