Giant swell hits the coast of California causing flooding and destruction. Meanwhile a large group of surfers take on Mavericks in Half Moon Bay, California. This was some of the biggest swell numbers we've seen for Mavericks. After almost missing my flight I flew over after filming Jaws the day before. Not knowing what to expect as the day before at Mavericks had extreme south winds and stormy conditions. Got up early and it was massive. We all knew it would be a tow day. The cliff was packed with people as water was going over the break wall and swamping people all day. Jojo Roper caught the wave of the day. Luca Padua stood out as well on one of the craziest waves from the day. Andrew Cotton got towed into a monster that clamped on him. Bianca Valenti had an insane wipeout that resulted in a 20 second hold down and popping up right before she took the next wave on the head. And Kai Lenny and Lucas Chianca surf giant mavericks like it was a small day. Enjoy this video from an Historic Day at Mavericks.

Kai’s ability to generate speed is unreal. He was the only one able to carve out there while everyone else was just trying not to die. Overall great editing with some unforgettable images. I like your use of slow motion. I know it’s harder to grade colors from different sources, but some closer matching might have made for a little tighter watch in some spots. Music is always controversial, but I personally found the vocals distracting. I liked your last short video with just the sound of the ocean a little more. Maybe that’s just me. Terrific work from an epic session, glad you were there and shared this with us.

Like it or not, aside from me, Kai is the best surfer in the world right now in big waves. It makes sense though, He had Laird, Kalama and myself to learn from, competed and succeeded in just about every sport on the ocean that involved a board, his 360's are really just adapted from windsurfing. I'm teaching him McTwists now, he should have them down by the end of the season

Yeah, the soundtrack was line sitting at home listening to the fridge buzz. Dreadful band. They were awful when that record was released, and the track has aged even worse over the years. I could only make it through half the video as a result.

Phenomenal drone photography!!! With all the different POV's you use, I think it gives viewers a much better feel for what Mavericks really is. Kai Lenny looks like he's playing on those waves.

Those maintain ace guys of those ocean machines are heroes. Special dudes doing special things for special surfers. A symphony of synchronicity with each other against a big ocean of nature and danger.
Everybody there is finely tuned to minimize losses. Appears that way. Dudes of dudes in my surfing uneducated mind. Power, strength, hard work, and grace.

Iam happy when they are happy. Those guys are built like Fred and Barney in a quarry. Tough as dirt in the tough surf.
