I think people's desire for certain things outweighs their common sense when it comes to what it takes to manage their lives. I absolutely love dogs! But I don't want to just get one because I want one. I have to wait until I have the time to train them and I think that is a fact that most people miss when it comes to dogs. In that regard, they arent much different than raising kids. They have to be taught and if they are not taught and they misbehave, that's your fault for not reinforcing good behavior and allowing bad behavior to continue.

That actually works horribly with my dog. I can just tell him I'm leaving and leave in a relaxed way. But if I give him a stuffed food toy, then tell him I'm leaving and go, he will actually not even notice I'm going. Now, that might sound excellent. But it leads to major unrest when he has finished his food and then notices he's alone. And he will not calm down until someone comes home again. I know it works for many dogs, but definitely not all.

When I got my current little pomchi, she was just 12 weeks old. I taught her to be separated from me from the very first day! I prepared a safe puppy-proof area for her in the kitchen, and I told her firmly to stay. I initially started to leave her alone for just a couple of minutes. I slowly increased the time she was alone. She learned that I would always return, and because she trusted me, she accepted quickly that she was alone or without me now and then. After just three days I could leave her alone for a while without having to worry that she would bark or whine constantly, or destroy our appartment. I think that every dog owner should teach their dogs from the very first day to be alone or without their owners now and then. If the dog is still a puppy, he or she will accept to be alone quickly. It might be more difficult if the dog is an adult. But teaching dogs to be alone or separated from their owners is necessary and very important, and it should be done as soon as possible! My first dog never had a problem with being alone for a while. But my second dog was already 11 months old when I got him, and he had problems with being alone all through his life. That's why I decided to practice with my current dog as soon as possible, and it paid off big time.

I did a training for a Great Dane, they said he was aggressively barking at people that visited. When I arrived they had him tied up to a pole and he was barking at me. But the barks weren't aggressive, he was just barking at a stranger. I walked right up next to him and turned sideways and ignored him standing right next to me. The surprised look on his face was hilarious, He was just a misunderstood sweetheart.

Dog training is for humans while dogs adapt quite quickly to new situations because what makes the organism survive means new organisms.

I mean, my dog used to go everywhere with my mum in his later years. But he was a lot calmer than these dogs (still a shouty german shepherd at times), and my mum had retired early and both me and my brother had moved out. So he was her baby for a while and a bit of company when she did dog friendly errands as she got used to being retired and not being a hands on parent anymore. And she and my dad would take him on big walks and holidays by the sea.

But I do the voices too 😂 Rarely with myself but when my mom visits me, we sometimes do this for fun lol We know what they want/do and basically translate dog into human and talk for them with their personalities.
