What might that be?

My dad was a railfan. He loved watching the trains go by...it wasn't always my favorite thing to do with him but I learned to love spending time with him. Miss you dad.

When I was a kid working on my granddad & grandmothers farm, there was a freight train that went very near their property line. When I would hear that train horn, and whatever farm equipment I was operating, I would always take-off and go to see the train pass by. My grand parents knew it. They did not seem to care because they knew I loved trains. I had a Lionel electric 25 car freight train set and I played with it constantly. I an 72 years in age and I still have that train set.

I live in Canada, and these big boys take 2 minutes to pass. I just put my car in park, my mother once saw one that lasted 6 MINUTES!

I love these videos of American trains. Enormous amounts of all types of haulage n cargo....ty for the uploads...just shows how much is taken out there and sold on.

I always liked watching trains approaching from really far away on a straight section of tracks. The engines headlights and ditch lights make it look like a huge bright orb of light floating towards me because that’s all I can see when it’s farther away.

I love your freight train videos! As a kid growing up in So. California in the 60's-70's, I remember the excitement when the railroad lights would flash signaling a train was approaching. These massive behemoths would come rumbling through the suburbs of L.A. and the high desert too. As a kid these trains seemed to be steel robots with flashing eyes that had a mind of their own. They are still exhilarating!

Actually, loaded coal cars are much heavier that loaded container stack cars. The average loaded coal car weights 100-110 tons, the avg. double stacked container flatcar only 12 tons.

Each container, each piggyback, each tanker, each hopper, and each boxcar is one less truck on our highways! That's the thing I love about freight trains. However, the railroads and law enforcement agencies need to do something to tackle the problem with graffiti artists orating the freight cars. It seems to be the latest trend in graffiti vandalism. More than anything, it's very unsightly. But it.'s also conducive to gang activity and violence. I bet lots of the guys who do this grew up listening to "gangster" rap. It's people of all races. We've now turned out three generations that grew up with the so called "gangster" rap.
