Massive Food Preservation Day How Much Can We Get Done?!

Welcome back again today good friends for our from scratch massive food preservation day! That's right we process and home can from scratch SO MUCH strawberry jam. We cook from scratch blackberry jam. On this from scratch massive food preservation day we make homemade vanilla, activate our newest water kefir grains, and get a new scoby going with green tea kombucha! Along with all of these Massive Food Preservation Day projects from scratch, we additionally resurrect our two well-loved bread machines!! Remember those from my 100-year-old farmhouse and then for 4 years at the forest house?! Oh boy, on this big cooking from scratch day the beloved bread machines are back in home cooking action while we make 4 homemade loaves of banana bread from scratch! You would think this would be more than enough for our massive food preservation day, and believe me, it was a good full day of kitchen cooking projects. However, we get BONUS POINTS when I get a surprise deal on 40 pounds of strawberries on the way home from church the next day. HOLD AS TIGHT, as we then process 😂 those additional 40 pounds of strawberries AND get mangos ready for the Harvest Right Freeze Dryer ( for those interested here's my referral link for my large Harvest Right Freezer Dryer affiliates.harvestright.com/1... learn how to freeze dry 2,500 pounds of fresh food per year --12-16 pounds per batch!)).

Hi Jamerrill this is probably going to sound silly. But I’m a 37 year old woman, who lives alone. Both my parents are very toxic and dangerous people. So as an adult I’ve had to cut them out my life despite loving them. I’m still trying to heal from the trauma they caused. Then one day I found you, and your channel. And I find you to be a comfort to me, almost in a motherly way. That’s the strange bit, as I think I’m not much younger than you. But yeah I’ve been watching for about a year now. This is the first time I’ve commented. But just wanted to thank you for getting me threw some very dark times. Much love from the UK ❤❤

@@shelleymccarty1955 I guess I thought it might be weird because she’s about the same age as me, and watching her gives me all the positive motherly vibes, something I’ve craved my whole life. And I thought people might think I’m strange getting that from someone I don’t know on the internet 🤣. But your right people do find comfort in many ways, and this channel is one for me. 💜

My youngest daughter did homemade vanilla for Christmas gifts 2 years ago and last year she made washable paper towels as gifts. Each person got a roll of 10 towels. She gives out to about 30 people. Wonderful gifts. This year I think she’s making a family spice blend for Christmas gifts.

So she sews ....The other half was one of 10 kids and early Christmas Eve filled the kitchen, dining area, and living room of a split level house with all the assorted relatives. The tradition was to give to the kids only but, I was determined that we would give to the adults and/ or families without going broke. I made a lot of kitchen towels out of uocycled bed sheets, curtains, thrift store yardage, etc... either as the gift or in addition to something else. Just hard cotton larger than some bi0ut much smaller than the big flour sacking towels. Often relatively plain 'cause simple double hems, with or without a hem band, is still a lot cutting, pressing, and stitching when you do a lot.

Jammerill, you can also make orange, lemon and cinnamon extracts the same way with the vodka. Use cinnamon sticks for the cinnamon, orange peels for the orange and the zest of 2-3 lemons for the lemon. On the lemon make sure to not get the pith or it will give you a bitter extract. I love making homemade extracts.

When my younger son was in high school I volunteered 1 hour a day to tutor some of the kids in math. I used Hershey bar math, M&M's, skittles and Gummys to teach fractions. The visual really helped some of them to "see" what a fraction was. Hands on makes so much more sense that just numbers on paper. This is how kids learn best, by doing and seeing the results.

I made a lot of preserves this past summer. I just cooked down the fruit with lemon and the minimum amount of coconut sugar I could use, and cut some tartness. Then cook till the natural pectin formed and then canned. I watch Rose Red Homestead for canning directions on a lot of things. I didn’t use pectin and I didn’t measure anything. Came out great, but it’s definitely a thinner preserves. Yours looks great.

If you do not want to write vinegar on the side of your canners then put the word vinegar on the envelopes that your weights go into. So when you go to get the canner set up with water and you take the weights envelopes out of them, you can add vinegar and then. Because you will see your note.

I so appreciate this video and why might surprise you. Hubby and I just bought a new build house in South Korea!! We caught it before the kitchen was installed so I got to customize it! We got to see a neighbors finished kitchen they customized also for a lot of good ideas. Cabinets are now in and most have doors. Drawers are in but the front covers not installed yet. Something’s about neighbors kitchen kept bothering me, but could not pinpoint what. Then I watched this video last night and it hit me! The cabinet handles and drawers pulls! Mine are similar to yours. Long and stainless. But in neighbors house they installed them ALL horizontal and in the middle, bottom or top of each cabinet door and at the top of each drawer. Oh nooooo. I grabbed several screen shots as you moved around your kitchen to show my cabinet guy. Door handles HAVE to be vertical and placed just like yours. Drawers pulls, will be horizontal, of course, but have to be in the dead center of each drawer front. Explaining to Korean husband to then explain to Korean cabinet builder(I am not fluent in Korean) was gonna be a crap shoot. Now I have pictures of you cabinets and drawers to show them. So THANKS!!

A tip for the eggs: place them in a bowl of water before cracking. If they sink to the bottom of the bowl and lays down they are fresh. If they sink to the bottom and stands up while still on the bottom they are not as fresh. If the eggs float, throw them out!!! They are bad. Remember FLOATERS ARE BAD. Love your videos!

Something that I wanted to mention was the banana bread I’ve made once they are done (oat meal blended to a flour is a good gluten free version) freezing the loafs and the next day or days later the bread is yummier after freezing it 👍🏼.

Hi, I would just like to add that the advice to persevere includes all areas of life. I'm 57 and just graduated from college 2 years ago. Don't let your life and your timeline deter you if things aren't going as planned. Keep your eye on the prize and the dream in your heart! You will get there!

I love to watch your canning projects! You make it all seem so easy, which I know it is not. You are amazing mama, wife and friend to all! I wanted to share a tip to help with your big bottle of dish soap. I put mine in the back corner under my sink, directly beneath the soap dispenser pump. First l ran a plastic piece of tubing from the soap dispenser pump to the large bottle of dish soap, eliminating the small soap bottle you constantly had to refill. I don’t have to lug the big bottle around anymore and a pump of soap right into the sink does the trick.

Not sure if someone else has mentioned it, but before you crack the eggs you can drop them in some cold water and if they are rotten they will float due to the gas. So if they sink they are fine, if they float chuck them out!
