Nairobi, the land of cool waters, has reclaimed its name back. Mother nature is refilling her reserves kwa mpigo. The problem is that the planners 4got that rivers know their course, and they will always fight for their space.

We can't entirely blame the government. I'm somewhere in the UK and at some point it experienced heavy floods, though with light rains. God is in full control of nature, even with the best drainage system, it's what it is. Kenya nchi yetu, hakuna matata.

If rain for one month drops in one hour, NO amount of drainages can cope. Drainages are not constructed for abnormal rainfall but normal rain. What nairobi has experienced is not unusual. There are floods all over the world including recently in Dubai.

Planning for scenarios that are not stretched beyond normal is poor planning. You must consider best case scenario, most likely scenario and worst case scenario. Densely populated places like Nairobi must take planning to the extreme ends of worst case scenario.

The government should require all builders to collect all the water from their roofs and store it in tanks that can be beautifully masked with the tank overflow then being allowed to overflow into the drainage system, if there is a drainage system. Alternatively, the county can do it for existing buildings and require new builders to do it for any new construction. They can even make the tanks out of concrete.

@@robertadwar333 my profession is that I am a human observer and since everything is always about cost, I am thinking of a quick solution as we wait for the "funds" that we cannot afford. If rural people can collect water coming out of their roofs, why can't cities? I know that there are better solutions but why should people suffer while they wait for those solutions?

Dolphine 254 thank you for your hard work and courage to do this. The two main things that are causing all the flooding. One, all trees throughout the country being cut and not protected from tree poachers. There needs to be massive tree planting throughout the country, and the government who collects our taxes needs to fence and protect them all. Second, the government needs to upgrade the entire sewage systems from all over Kenya. That is the second major problem why there is so much out of control flooding in the cities and towns. I can also add a third. Citizens are out of control just throwing rubbish all over instead of disposing in rubbish bins or burning the rubbish immediately to curb the blockage of ALL the drains for water to flow correctly. I have worked in conservation for years in America. These are the three major issues affecting Kenya and the reasons why people are dying in high numbers due to the flooding.

lack of STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEMS in Nairobi. It has been a problem even when i used to live in Kenya over 15 years ago because They build roads and chimba mutaros to drain water instead of real Drainage systems....Part of the corruption...Look at the side of the road, thise are just mutaros or in some places there is nothing that drains away water. The road built in the sunny days inaweza kudanganya wengi.....Looks great when dry but wacha it rains!... Lived in an Estate back then pretty beautiful when it was dry! This is a worldwide disaster just like Covid-19. Anyway, what's the best thing people should do? I applaud @Dolphine for this far reaching information. But people are using it poorly to quench their political inclinations. So sad, We can blame the government, but before then, should we watch children starving, men and women hungry because the government hasn't acted promptly? We become too mean to help out.

How this is comparable to some floods events from the past ? What is the situation in other places downstream? There is no simple, quick and cheap solution for a similar situation. As a long-term solution, building a few polders may help, but it requires a strong political will and funding, as it takes many years to design and build.

There is nothing in the past record that is comparable. There was heavy and continuous Rains in the 1960s but I cannot access the data to make a comparison. Then fewer people and open spaces ensured the impact was modest rather than catastrophic as it is today. Poor planning and a changing climate is a recipe for disaster.

Wetlands were tampered with. They act as a sponge. They would at least reduce the severity of the floods we are experiencing in East Africa. Mambo Bado.

Please don’t mislead the public. South C starts at the mosque. That junction of Muhoho Avenue and Mai Mahiu Road is in Nairobi West, not South C.

Potato, Potahto! Please stop being so petty. Just make your point of correction without accusing her of misleading people. There is no malice in this video. @Dolphine 254 Thank you for the video!

But i believe in all these, God is communicating! We have come to a point whereby we dont believe in God anymore! I was in this city and have lived there and preached the gospel on streets and buses. Many have deviated from the truth and many churches are walking in falsehood. We must acknowledge that there is a God in heaven even when we build cities. Mind you these cities will be destroyed with brimstone fire at the end of days!! You lady taking the video have you accepted the Lord Jesus into your life? Thankyou
