As Lisa said capitalism is the issue here, as well as the overconsumption of items. If you just throw the items away after getting rid of them, yes, that is wasteful, but if you find new homes for the items that’s so much better! Obviously if something is moldy or something, throw away, but trying to give away or repurpose items is the way to go, as well as slowing down consumption and advocating against capitalism.

I did a declutter recently and sent the barely touched or new palettes to a domestic abuse shelter. But I was left with some I don’t think I can rehome. It pains me to toss them in the trash so I’m going to spend time trying to recycle the pieces (like cardboard packaging) and then tossing the shadows themselves. But the whole process has made me realize that I want to consume a lot less. Having a solid group of favorites is great.

Thank you for sharing, Kara. Isn't weird how hard it is to declutter eyeshadow palettes? We get attached in a weird way to them, trying to rationalize why to keep them, even though we don't reach for them. I have a few palettes that I need to declutter. Our tastes change, because we are constantly changing. Bug hug to you. 🤍

I said out loud when you said that the Wild Green palette wasn’t very wild that it also wasn’t very green. 😂 I know this is older but I’m binging your videos since I just recently found you. This was a great video!!

Holy shit. Consider me impressed!! That is a LOT of palettes to declutter!! I nearly choked when you said you were getting rid of 97 palettes. 97!!! That's huge! I have such separation anxiety when it comes to getting rid of crap in my collection (haha more like in my whole LIFE!) it's not even funny. I have been slowly working up to a major purge of my home recently so wish me luck on ramping that up and learning to let go of stuff!! I think you did a great job!

I have to be in the right mood to declutter. It's definitely not easy. I feel wasteful and silly for having bought so much but I'm carrying that forward when co sidering future purchases. A whole house declutter is super overwhelming. I did one a few years ago and it took days. But it feels SOOO good once it's done! Good luck!

I watch these videos 1 because I just love looking at all the beautiful makeup. But 2 because sometimes it can push me to declutter (not makeup. Just everything hahahah)

Eyeshadow pallets for some reason us my favorite makeups

I’m so overly attached to my palettes, it always takes me forever before I can let go of one. Your declutter was so interesting to me, I was truly surprise by some decisions and I love how clearly you articulate your feelings and thoughts. I think as for me, my big issue is that I love to do it all. Neutral, dark, shiny, matte… it’s my playtime and I just love going into it with all, using multiple palettes at the time, call me Bob Ross😂😂 wish you all the best for you and your family for the holiday time 💜

I'm exactly the same!! I love it all 😅🤣it makes it harder to let go of things. I'm looking at my collection all the time thinking what I don't need and with few exceptions where I don't like the performance I never can say:I'm not gonna use this, I'm not gonna wear that

Good call on the Fire & Ice! That is the most beautiful and unique palette! I use it many ways but the vertical rows makes stunning looks! That was a nail biter! 😳🫣😅

I think we can all relate to buying palettes that we never use: there’s such a build up of hype around new releases in the beauty industry, where products sell out instantly, that we all end up panic buying in the fear that we’ll miss out otherwise! Very impressive declutter x

Agreed completely!! Brands (and influencersl want us to buy before we really consider the purchase. I've had buyers remorse so many times. I now buy far less makeup and am really loving exploring my collection.

This is a full circle moment. I found your channel on your last year collection. Loved it so much that i watched it twice (your voice is seriously calming) and now to see this, i feel like we made it trought the year. Thank you

Aww, thank you so much!! And, yes!! We survived 2022. I think that was the hardest year I've ever experienced, especially from a mental health perspective, and I'm ready for a more positive 2023.

I also get a lot of use from my tarte full bloom palette, it is massive but so so wearable for day to day easy looks, love it

I’m going to attempt a declutter of this size too.. I probably have close to 250 palettes. Including small palettes. I just want to size down and curate my collection. I think I’m finally at a point where I’m like I only want as much as I can use (obviously with a little more than a non-creator… because I’ll keep some things for content). I’m just over having drawers and drawers of makeup.. unnecessary! (For me!!!)

Your video is inspiring me to cut my collection. I already decluttered all of my Urban Decay except the two new Moondust Quads and that Party Favor six pan. I also have decluttered all of my Too Faced Palettes except the Remastered one (I can’t even remember what it is called); one is more than enough. I’ve even whittled my Juvia’s Place palettes down to three from many more. And my vast BH collection to one. But I have a ways to go.

Kaleidos quads are from the Smokey Nostalgia collection. Cold brew and black jasmine are the quads.

I noticed that people buy because is pretty not really because use it I'm strictly for how I buy my stuff and is about 50 or less including cheekpallets as well and I haven't really declutter much because I love it each time and is good quality and good pigments trust me if is no good pigments is just using space up.

I recently did another declutter of all my makeup & I'm continuing my no-buy into 2023. It feels like a lot of us want to lighten our loads and curate our existence. (It's been a wild few years and I think most of us are craving a sense of calm & control.) If folks get froggy in your comments, you just direct them my way. A lot of the circles I run in on these here interwebs are cannibalizing one another through judgement. We all could use a lil mercy.

Calm and control are definitely things I'm craving. With the cost of everything increasing, I've been reprioritizing and realizing how empty many "must have" purchases leave me feeling. Is this the beginning of a declutter series? 0.o I would watch it. Also if something you have is not too used/old/crappy it may a great gift for somebody else, I'm sure you don't throw away stuff willy nilly unless you really have to. Maybe some can be sold online? It would be annoying (take pictures and write what you are selling) but on the long run it may make you feel a bit less guilty about the 'waste'.

I’m definitely interested in a few as well. Eyeshadows are easily sanitized, so you shouldn’t have a problem selling them. If Poshmark doesn’t work out, try Mercari!

Thank you for addressing your concern so respectfully. The word I used, just for clarity, was "renege" which is defined as backing out of a deal. I've done research this morning trying to learn about the word as i didn't know it had any problematic connotations; it appears that some of the concern arises from a common misspelling of the word. In any event, I'll continue researching and I hope that the context in which I used it makes it clear that I meant absolutely no disrespect to anyone.

I agree. They rested on their laurels and don't appear to have tried to continue improving their formula at all over the years. I always have high hopes for them and they always let me down.
