HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

Probably because recycled steel has tanked in price sooo much it is pretty worthless for all but megarefineries to process it. More and more countries are shutting down their blast furnaces (which can produce steel from ore) and changing them to arc furnaces (which can only produce recycled steel), as they run on electricity and not coal, so it helps them hit environmental targets. The result is the price of recycled steel has tanked, but virgin steel has shot up in price.

If you want longer clips pointing inside the furnace without overheating the camera, you could try recording with a GoPro inside a fish tank. The water will act as a thermal buffer to protect the camera. Hyce was able to record inside the coal box of a steam engine by doing that.

There is one thing i want to ask for a long time. Did you ever tried to cast a bar under flame? Basicly a big weed burner (or two-three smaller ones) directed to the mold so it is in a constant red hot state before casting the copper. Then the flames stay on till the copper "cools" down to the flame temperature. This is a way to reduce cooling seams and the little air pockets on the underside of the bars and it can produce cleaner surfaces with reduced wrinkels on top. Happy Casting from Germany;)

That is sorta like annealing, a process used on some alloys and glass to make them less brittle. It changes the crystalline structure of the material. Good idea to try, if for no other reason but experimentation.

I love the copper bars you make from scrap. Its always the most beautiful to me just because its so important in electronics in general and energy transmission and reception of all kinds. From the Television to the cameras used to make this, to the computer used to edit it, to the entire power grid responsible for giving the entire country power and even the generators making the energy. Its all amazing and possible because of copper. It's 100% my personal favorite semi precious metal, and its got incredibly beautiful crystal oxide forms like Malachite and Azurite. I think Velvet Azurite is an amazing gemstone if you can even find one. Cooper is a great metal. Thanks for all the years and all the massive copper pours. Cheers M8. Wish you nothing but the best from here in NY, USA.

You have probably mentioned in previous videos how you got started doing this smelting stuff, but I have yet to catch that in the some 20 or so of your vids that I have watched. It's been decades since I have done any scrapping of metals and I am too old for it now, but I truly enjoy watching you. I hope it is worth your while to make these vids cuz I know there is tedious work involved.

There is so much going on over the two last videos, I am overwhelmed with joy!!! The Al/Cu bar from last week is one of the most beautiful metal alloy bars I've seen. The color, the texture, and the bar resting position after solidifying. Wow!~ Today we are rewarded with the collaboration of one of the subs and another different alloy of Bronze Al. Most often we have Cu, Brass, Al. It seems Mr BigStackd does not like Lead bars, the few times I saw he set them aside. Zinc is very rare to see, once a year perhaps. Something like 7 years ago in one episode he melted Cu/Ni, and the same year he made something with iron alloyed with something. I need to find those episodes. The larger mold used today is by far my favorite. For me, it gives a special charm to the bars. Those Cu spacers were awesome by themselves, the e sizes. The two larger ones drove me crazy as they were. I still do not think there is metal prettier than Cu, and today we had the spacers and their transformation into wonderful bars. So the 50/50 CuAl bars, the Al Bronze, and the Cu bars are so beautiful and the size they were made gave an extra touch. Lastly, I wonder why it is not common to have other metals from sources like local junkyards. I make a couple per month for my collection, in my case I go to tire shops, and triffid stores to get lead, zinc, pewter, and armetale. I began just melting whatever so I have a half dozen of random junk bars. Cuprous-Nickel is possibly at the top of the alloys I like for appearance. I grabbed a Kg of coins to make me one bar. Since I am not skilled, it was not easy since I have a generic backyard forge. But then I gave the shine to the bar and it is spectacular. Wonder if someday Mr BigstackD will find some Nickel to melt? It is not common because it is more expensive, correct?

My friend a little advice from distant Greece, when you fry meat, try rubbing it with extra virgin olive oil, don't use anything else until it's done, then you add salt and pepper and marjoram, not beforehand, because the meat will be bitter Take a small 500ml water bottle, make a hole in the lid, and every time you put the fire under the grill, put it out with the bottle. Don't let the meat burn, don't let the meat turn black, try chopping the pork into small pieces on a skewer on a charcoal grill, you will be amazed at how good it tastes Many greetings from Greece

Es ist für mich etwas ganz Besonderes, zuzuschauen, wie aus festem Material (die Form) Flüssiges und dann in etwas ganz anderes in Festes (eine andere Form) umgewandelt wird. (So in etwa wie Schokolade.) Super! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻💪🏻🤗

I’ve made aluminum bronze for my jewelry class we use scrap copper ( from other projects) and aluminum cans. Works great but needs to be annealed /reheated several times to shape it as it hardens the more pressure or force you apply
