Finally someone else seems to have hit upon the aluminum foil trick! I've been doing this since grade school whenever I needed to make a mask for art or theater, works great!

I did not do this hole thing but the first part gave me a good mask idea thankyou very much!

It's better if you wrap the whole head real nice and tight before you put it in the oven, otherwise you will lose too much moisture.

Thanks for the help! I managed to make a 2 layer foil mask mold for my paper mache, I did not use 2 feet of foil though!

For the people with the lack of common sense They crumple it up BECUSE it’s easier to bend and fold it. And your just gonna end up crumpling it later. And for the half parts,it’s to make sure they both fit perfectly. The reason they use foil is Because of the flexibility and durability . I tried most things and it was hard. ....your welcome! from: the person who knows how to make masks but is lazy to help others.

Please answer; honest question: What's the point of cutting the mask into two pieces? It's seems like you would achieve the same shape and functionality by just keeping the foil in one piece.

+JasperLair it makes a tighter and more complete mold of your face. I have tried it both ways and cutting it in two creates a better end product.

Ex-Tyrant It also might be easier to get more detail, when your aren't rushing to mold it because it's difficult, or you can't breathe. When it was cut in two, she could breathe on both halves, giving her more time to really get a good mold. That would be my guess of why it turned out better

Anthony Roy actually for that and durability. You don’t want the base of the mask to break when you start the whole mask. I didn’t do all the layers, I did a total of 3 and it collapsed and dried that way so I had to re start.

Ok this may be a stupid question...but why cut the mask into 2 pieces just to tape them back together?

It will give the whole thing better definition if you work on two pieces instead of one. Two pieces will be tighter and have more detail, it's harder to get the same amount of detail with only one piece :) Plus if you do it in one part it's going be harder to work with it without it breaking or changing shape.

Letitia Kilgrow it’s for the sake it doesn’t break,you’ll end up crumpling it up later anyways. It’s also Easier then having it perfectly smooth
