My name is Jean Carlos, from Brazil and this is my story. I met my boyfriend listening to Hamed sing. Today my boyfriend is no longer present because I lost him for a suicide, we were victims of a bipolar disorder. Today is Christmas Eve and I'm listening to Shim El Yasmine to remind me of who I love and who's gone.

I'm somewhere else with this song. It's 12:00 AM, the streets are empty, I'm walking in a crisp-autumn night. The wind flirts with strands of my hair and then switches to the leaves scattered around me. I think of you. I think of you...

The worst feeling tonight is not being able to sing this wonderful song I just close my eyes...smelling the jasmine
Smell the Jasmine Smell the jasmine Taste the molasses And remember to remember me Brother don't forget me My love, my prize I would have liked to keep you near me Introduce you to my parents, have you crown my heart Cook your food, sweep your home Spoil your kids, be your housewife But you're in your house, and I'm in another house God, I wish I had never let you go Smell the jasmine And remember to forget me

I grew up on the East Coast of U.S. listening to all kinds of jazz. Miles, Coltrain, Yuseff Lateef, Brubeck, Cannonball Adderley...you name it. I discovered this band by accident. And Yasmine Hamdam. Such a beautiful voice and person. There is such wonderful music in the world that many people never hear. It makes me want to go to Beirut as silly as that sounds.

SeaTea Sometimes you hear music that almost can bring tears to your eyes. This band does it. Wonderful trumpet player and singer. I live in SF bay area. Last time I went to the Ethnic Dance Festival a woman danced to a Erhu sound track, Chinese two stringed instrument. It knocked me out and once again, almost cried hearing the music. And I'm not a guy who usually reacts this way. Music can transform.....we are so lucky.

If you get the chance to make the trip to Beirut, do not pass it up, you would be so disappointed! It is a beautiful city, the people are wonderful! Before they had their little tiss, back in the 70's, it was known as the Riviera of the Mediterranean, open, free, a joyous place to be. As I understand, it is back to that and more.

It sounds silly. The streets are going to be empty and superficial, empty of that sound you're aiming to hear. Mashrou Leila wouldn't be there. Because they're a dream that came to us from so deep that we cannot reach; like all that we love.
I heard this song for the first time today. Though I couldn't understand the words, it brought tears to my eyes. I think that it's so incredibly beautiful how music can be understood in this way and transcend language. The sound and the spirit behind the music translates itself into feelings for the listener. After looking at the translated lyrics, I realized that this process definitely happened to me.
I'm actually in love with Hamed Voice ! God He's amazing !

Although I haven't yet found an exact English translation for the lyrics - and really wish I could "hear" the song for all it is that way, the singer still gets it across. And knowing that the song is about a love that can never be, and the one lyric I do know: "Smell the jasmine.. /.. And remember to forget me"? Heartbreaking. Talented musicians!! Wishing them all continued success!
@sandykamel1211
6 жыл бұрын
LightningStrikes2ys jasmine is often planted at the entrances of homes so you smell it as you enter . Taste Molasses and tahini are a common breakfast staple. I think the opener of the song revolves around nostalgia... the scent of coming home... the habits of everyday.. The way you remember things in your youth. He then goes on to say remember remember remember and segways into remember to remember me. Say you'll never forget me.. Oh my love... oh my destiny or share in that destiny... I would have liked to keep you near... this is used to mean physically and emotionally. I'd have liked to introduce you to my family.. and have you cause me every day heartache and annoyance associated with being in a long term relationship. I'd have liked to cook your favorite foods and clean your house and spoil your children... and be the lady of your house... the word is used interchangeably with the word house wife. But... you're in your home and I'm in another and I'm telling you I wish you'd never left... The jasmine..... forget me!! The jasmine..... Smell the jasmine... remember to forget me...
This is beyond perfect
