I went to Kenya in 2009 and was able to go into a masai tribe community. It was so cool to hear how they use their voices and the agility and height they could reach in their jumping! Definitely a blessing!

beautiful video.am a kenyan, but dont understand what they are singing about, but from the time i started living in Europe i learnt to appriciate this.they are just from a few tribes that still live traditionally.they spend most time outside, meet families and friends, and never lonely unlike we living in europe our best friends are internet and tvs imagine how many people suffer from depression in western life.im so much impressed from their jewerleries, too bad i never met them even in Kenya.

it's amazing to me how the vocal inflections sound exactly like early blues recordings (down to the guttural Popeye-esk throaty sound, that was used by some blues singers), yet I have never known of the TAST to go this far inland (unless there's an Indian ocean aspect I'm not aware of). East Africa (Uganda, Kenya, etc.) shares more in common with American vocal traditions than West Africa seems to, though both influences are strong (vocally and instrumentally). Thanks for posting.

These people are fucking lion-killing warriors, lol. They depend on nothing but themselves for survival and they have very intense ritualistic ceremonies not unlike a modern heavy metal concert where the whole ground shakes from their rhythmic stomping. They go into shamanic fits while dancing that would probably scare the shit out of you if they fell to the ground in convulsions while you were around. They're also in incredible shape and do this for hours, sometimes all day. You wouldn't be able to keep up. You think it's just a silly game to them? Hopping around and laughing with friends? They're not some noble savage group of child-like primitives for the bored hippie Westerner to fantasize about living among. They're not goofing off and making silly sounds for the fun of it in this video because they're free-spirited. They're doing it for religious reasons that unify the tribe and help to ensure their survival and solidarity on a social level.
