In an interview , Carol mentioned this skit as one of the biggest flops they ever did but I think it was hilarious because of the spontaneous crack ups by the cast 😄

The fact that you think it's funny because of the mistakes says it all :) All the big laughs came from places other than the sketch.

When Lyle dropped the keys and Harvey hits his hysterically laughing "boss" through the apartment door, well, I laughed as much as any moment in this entire show's run on TV. Sometimes the unscripted, spontaneous moments wind up as the most priceless.

Carol was great. But, I loved watching Harvey and Tim together. This is one of my favorite skits ever! In fact, my wife helped me do something similar in front of my mother- in- law; who is a very proper East coast woman. My wife smushed a large chocolate mousse cream pie in my face and my mother-in-law's reaction was priceless! She stared at me with her hand covering her open mouth and I stared at her through a thick mass of cream filling and pie crust!

Honestly, that was so funny how everything went belly up through the skit. Harvey was such a great actor and always on the verge of breaking into laughter. This must be one of his real classics of all comedy and a brilliant tribute to all who participated in it. Thanks so much for uploading it.

Vaudeville. That is what generated such comedy acts. Once Vaudeville died all acting went downhill. Why? Because there was no longer any place actors and comedians could fail, learn from it, and hone their acts.

Harvey spills drink on Vicki. Vicki loses earring. Chair moves when drink is poured on plant. Mis-timed doorbell. Lyle drops keys. Was Harvey supposed to get hit with the cake? Or did Vicki adlib the disintegrating skit? I really can't tell. And the Harvey falls out of the window wrong. Beautiful mayhem.

Harvey Korman just CAN'T keep a straight face or keep from laughing, but it just adds to the comedy, we love those "errors" they make on the show, humor wins out all the time when it's true like this show. (He's even still laughing after he went out the window.) SO funny! You just can't help laughing with them.

...Carol said THIS skit was her worst in the WHOLE Series, because everything went wrong...for the RIGHT reasons...She said that she was SO flustered by all the mistakes, she ad-libbed 6:37!! ...To be fair, a Variety series that aired as long as "The CB Show" did (1967-1978) is BOUND to have some 'flat' skits, but... the MISTAKES saved this one, and made it a Classic...let's review....: (CONT.) - Harvey spills some of the Martini on Vicki, at 1:51 ... - Vicki's earring falls off (& Harvey notices), at 2:19 ... - The audience feels a bit uncomfortable with Mary's manipulative sabotaging, at 3:00.... - Harvey 'reacts' to the doorbell too early, at 5:19, and the audience catches it.... - Lyle (accidentally) drops his keys at 5:33 , causing fits of laughter for BOTH Men.... - Mary (Carol) KNOWS what just happened, and SHE'S stifling her OWN laughter, at 5:46... - Vicki smacks Harvey with the Cake, causing Harvey AND Carol, to lose it....(6:02)... - ..& when Harvey jumps from the Window, he TRIPS on the ledge, causing Carol to BUST..(6:23) ...AND, the BEST part!??? ..The Director throws the script out the Window, at 6:45!! ...HA-HAAAA!!

After he got the doorbell poorly timed, he op he opens the door. That causes the other guy to come in laughing. Then he drops the keys. Again more laughter as he has to punch him laughing. Carol comes into the scene laughing. She was never meant to smash the cake into his face. But she had to get out of there. She was meant to taste the cake. After she storms out everything was impromptu from there. That's why Carol is forced to ask if it's too sweet. Korman is surprised that she left and decides to jump out the window. But also turned out to be an accident. Certainly the best piece on the Carol Burnett show! If you watch carefully, it's almost mystical how things go wrong after Carol's line, "Ohoh, trouble" at about 2.17, and this trouble only magnifies and blows up!
