I met Mary yesterday at Book Expo in NYC. She looked stunning and was a delight to talk to. I told her that Nathan Jones was one of my favorite Supremes songs. She sang the title and we sang '"you've been gone too long " together. It was definitely a Supreme moment for me. New book Supreme Glamour out this fall.

just remember when you criticize or compare the Supremes to any other group in the history of popular music, remember these three girls couldn't even drink out of public water fountains..... this fact alone puts their success in such spectacular context and a different category.

The Supremes are the GREATEST Girl Group of all. 3 Black American girls from a low income Detroit house complex build to give poor Black Americans homes in a city that only allowed Black Americans residents to live in the slums called the "Black Bottom". They brought GLITZ & GLAMOUR to pop music like NO OTHER girl group. Diana, Mary & Florence ❤

Beautiful interview but somehow Mary gets their ages messed up. When they did the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1967 just before Flo was fired the ages Flo or Mary gave was Mary and Diana were 14 and Flo was 15. Betty might’ve been 17 at the time now that’s true. They signed to Motown when they were 16 in January 1961 they were turning 17 within that year and this includes Barbara Martin who took Betty’s place while Flo would turn 18 in June. Love Mary but she would always screw up their ages when they started singing.

Mary Wilson over anticipates the questions and doesn't properly pause to give genuine answers. That shows me she is narrow minded. She repeats the same recounts over. She is phony and has underlying bitterness about the group dynamic. She is still jealous of the success of the lead singer Diana Ross. This was my subject analysis finding for my course.
