As a Gibson lover, may I suggest an ES-336 or ES-339, or ES-356 or 359. They are smaller than full size 335, and just as beautiful. Also, try a Gibson Johnny A model.

"what guitar do you love, but doesn't fit your playing" was a great Q! I'd like to hear that asked in every interview.
All my favorite channels crossing over! I'm just bummed that I missed the live version.
She is an articulate and talented musician. I am coming to music late in life and I am surprised that guitar is so "dude-centric". A woman just owning it is awesome. Good luck to her. Thanks to you Phillip for sharing her talent and being so generous.

Phillip has been so kind to me to introduce me to his audience! Thanks for watching :)
Fantastic video! There's nothing better than seeing a legitimate, knowledgeable musician conduct a quality interview with an accomplished musician. Mary is as genuine as ever...
I just recently discovered Mary Spender through the Anderton's channel. She's utterly charming and great on camera, and I really love the subject matter she covers, especially as she herself is just getting into learning more about guitar gear. I look forward to learning right along with her! Love your channel too Mr McKnight!!
I love Mary Spender. it's nice to see her on multiple channels I'm subscribed too. I would totally love to jam with her

Well you're wonderful for saying that :D
Im so glad i happened upon this video. You two are two of my very FAVORITE KZreadrs over the past several years since I've been learning guitar👏👏👏
I wasn't familiar with Mary, but, I loved her personality so much I subscribed to her. As a woman just learning for guitar for only a year, at 44yrs old, it always excites me to see a female singer/songwriter!! It is definitely a man's world still.

Its funny to me when some musicians act like its a sport, when its a art form. Size, age, and gender have no affect on how well someone can play the guitar or create music. Im glad you are enjoying guitar it has been my passion for almost my whole life and I wouldnt want to be with out it.

Mary is a terrific player. First saw her play on that video she did on andertons.
Really enjoyed the interview! Mary is great, really enjoy her playing and singing. Thanks Mary and Phil!
Phil this was a great video, Mary is a champion! It's great to know another guitarist whom i can look up to. I really love that playing guitar over-rides race, religion, gender and age. If more people played guitars, there would be a lot less trouble in the world.

Congrats Phil, Mary is a gem to speak with! Very open to things!
Thank you Phil
Well this was a breath of fresh air... Can't wait to check out your channel, vids, and music Mary. Being a musician is a tough road. Thanks Phillip.. Great stuff.
Thanks Phil and Mary for this. It's so interesting that just in the last couple of months I subscribed to both of your channels. Both of your passion for guitars and gear have given me a renewed interest in my gear. Once I get your Tshirt Phil, I will wear it proudly.
such a great interview!!! thank you :-)
Excellent video Phil & Mary! Great banter and thoroughly enjoyable
Thanks Phil for the great interview. You are such a nice interviewer, asking the best questions. Greetings from Brazil!
The room with those lights looks pretty cool
Two of my very favorite YT people...Mary is a heck of a singer/writer...
Great interview. I stumbled onto Mary when I was checking out NAMM on KZread. She is very talented and I enjoy her music. Nice to get to know her a bit better. Thank you both.
Oh how cool! I love both of you!
I love her 😍 sorry Phil. Thank you both for these great 45 min, do it again very soon. Thanks Henrie.
This is a great QA live stream with Mary Spender who gave some good answers from an artist, singer, song writer, and guitarist point of view. I checked out her channel and subscribed.
Awesome video! I love Mary and her music... she is amazing!! And this video was so fun to watch!!!! Thanks!!!
Wow, what a small KZread world. I just discovered and subscribed to Mary's channel last week. These interviews/group chats are pretty cool, so I hope you keep them coming.
Great discussion about everything you both talked about! I really enjoyed hearing both Of your approach to songwriting as well as the gear talk. I will definitely be checking out Mary's channel after this!
Great video Phil, you're a really natural interviewer. Also well done Mary, love your fresh approach to this stuff, great to see you getting out there and getting some recognition.
Am I the only one that finds her accent amazing?

I need a British friend 😂 love this episode, and the talk of the pure dedication of music that enters ppl that get into instruments! 🎉🎉
Enjoy her channel and yours, thanks for doing this combined video!
Another great video. Mary Splender has a cool girl next door that can sing vibe. Don't let the record execs get a hold of her. If they do in 5 years time she will be singing on a unicorn that spits fire.

Yeah but wouldn't that look awesome if I was shredding out on the unicorn that spits fire. Hehe.
Phil, thanks for introducing me to Mary. Only just heard of her on your last video . Disappointed not knowing about this talented fellow Brit beforehand
She's definitely an up and coming star ! Love her playing style !
Great video Phil & Mary, very entertaining, fun & interesting.
Great video Phillip I first saw her on Andertons KZread channel. She's great and so are you my friend keep the cool stuff coming brother.
Love the dramatic lighting on the pedals! Nice touch!
Great interview... top job - would be great to see you interview more artists. Cheers
Fantastic interview! I quickly subscribed to Mary's channel.

Love this! Cheers on 100k Phil! Love the question about that guitar that doesn't work with the guitarists style 👌
Know your gear is the best..right? Lol..loved the interaction and questions
loved it. pop ain't my thing either but if it gets a guitar in a kids hand...great. It took me 50 years
Great talk with Mary. I wished you'd ask her to elaborate on her feelings/experience behind her question to John Mayer. She sort of touched on it with the signature Martin guitars. Does she feel guitars should be made with smaller necks? Etc. you're both the nicest most honest, real people.

Thank you Steven, I really like that not all guitars cater to just one type of player, there are so many options - it's just about finding what you like best. Maybe I'll do a video on this soon :)
Like many others, I subscribed to her youtube channel after her video with Andertons. It's refreshing to have a new guitar channel to watch and she comes across very symphathetic. And it's also awesome that she's featured in a video of one of my other favorite guitar channels. :D
Great Vid
Look at all those lovely pedals Phil... Oooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh great stuff!!!!!!!!!
That was fun =)
Nice job. Wouldn't mind another round of Q&A in the future.
Best lighting youve had yet. And happy Mary is getting exposure, shes beautiful and talented. On a side note, seeing that Micro Orange Crush behind her makes me want you to do a new Micro shootout, especially now that theres a Micro Katana too!
the guitar store q at the end was also a great Q that you could ask everyone
Nice video :)
1st Andertons channel, now this channel... She's getting her face in everywhere
A one of a kind is Philip M.:::: u are a great guy, Iwish I could spend time w/ you !!!! maybe someday./PEACE\Jay.
How hard is it for the guitar shop to call you the next day after you buy a guitar and thank you. Sweetwater does it when I buy a cable. Mary you nailed the guitar shop question.

How about a Q&A / Interview with Ola Englund?
Oh Damn! I missed it live... I always the best streams :(
She seems lovely.
Awesome interview! Any chance you would be able to get the other youtube guitar personalities as well such as Mark Agnessi, Jared Dines, Johan Segeborn, Capt. Lee and his crew? More power to your channel Phil...and to Mary too!
Phil, Mary Great in depth discussion on music. I really enjoyed. If you want to sell the Les Paul Gold top I will buy it.
Just watched her with andertons. Got into her channel. Very open to her opinions.

In reference to signature model, I had a similar experience with a SRV model Strat...loved the look, but the neck was a deal-killer...weirdest neck (oval) I've played.
Nice interview :) About guitars/necks: there is no rule. Some days, I feel like playing on a 25.5 scale with a thin C neck, sometimes I'll feel better on a rounded 59 with a slightly flatter radius... Which is why it is good if one can have several different guitars (wood, neck, pickups, etc.) The only necks I did not feel I could play a long time are the slim taper and, at the other end the 58 profile that really feels like a baseball bat. \m/
I found her site only a week or so ago. It was one of those suggested videos you see on the right side of your youtube screen. I can't believe I just found her site and you have have her on your site already. Will she join one of your guitar youtube round tables?
woah what is this a crossover episode?!
I feel the exact same way about Gibson Les Pauls. I have one and it is everyone's favorite, but it is the one that I play the least. It just doesn't feel right to me.
She mentioned switching between acoustic and electric. Am I the only one struggling with that? I've played acoustic guitars for over 20 years and never could grasp electric. Almost feels like I am starting over and learning all over again.
34:40 This must have been the inspiration for the dare to play the 8-string on the factory roof with the drone overhead at GuitCon 2 months later.
Mary, you may want to look into Guild acoustics. The next are smaller and they make beautiful instruments, not at all cheap or gimmicky.
Ha! Right

Mary have you tried the Epi dot .It's got a 61 SG kind of neck.

Btw Phil, all those pedals round the corner of the room makes it look like you're in a hotel room in Vegas
Where is Stephanie Vai, Josephine Satriani, or Edwina Van Halen?? Is there a female counterpart to all the virtuosos in the rock/metal world?? I know a lot of female classical players are astounding, but that is to be expected from any classical player.
she should try the Les Paul JR.
what is rendering a video?

Stop in to the House of Guitars near Rochester, NY. You both would like it.
Nice interview. You are both self admitted guitar "junkies" (I mean that in a nice way), and you both appreciate women in music who can play, and that is a good thing. Suggest checking out Samatha Fish. Mid-west player, woman, who can drive a blues bus with authority. No relation or connection, but she has made a career, built an audience and is still experimental. Things like an oil can guitar and other stuff built for her, make interesting change-ups and likely she has a slightly different take on this who area of guitars that fit the person and role ... She has a you-tube video of "Run Away" that may catch your attention :)

if you wanna do a good interview, don't base it solely on random questions sent in by viewers. it needs more structure

Katy Perry looks desperately unhappy when I see her performing EXCEPT the one song where she gets to play acoustic guitar with her backing singers. I don't think she's in control of her career and I hope she gets to assert some control at some point.
