Mary Queen of Scots | Saoirse Ronan Goes to War

Ойын-сауық

Queen Mary (Saoirse Ronan) shows the Earl of Moray (James McArdle) what happens when you rebel against the crown.
Film Synopsis:
Mary Queen of Scots explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Academy Award® nominee Saoirse Ronan). Queen of France at 16, widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry and instead returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. By birth, she also has a rival claim to the throne of Elizabeth I (Academy Award® nominee Margot Robbie), who rules as the Queen of England. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth's sovereignty. Rivals in power and in love, the two Queens make very different choices about marriage and children. Betrayal, rebellion and conspiracies within each court imperil both Queens-driving them apart, as each woman experiences the bitter cost of power.

This is like the second role she took, at least in my recollection, that Katherine Hepburn once interpreted, wouldn’t be surprised if she eventually ascended to legendary status

@@duchess8762 No the OP means this is the second role she’s played that the late great Katharine Hepburn has played. Kate played Mary Queen of Scots AND Jo March in Little Women back in the 1930s and now Saoirse Ronan has played both those characters in movies of her own.

"Our swords aren't just for show" is a great line to say to the homosexual who tricked a heterosexual queen into marrying him.

Greece and Europe: all the kings and queens would fight alongside the men. The Scots and English had cowardly rulers.

The costumes are more fantasy than real historical clothes and armour. I dont understand why they always feel the need to change what is given.

This film was ruined by adding ethnic characters that did not exist. There were no black nobles in the court of Queen Elizabeth 1. Nor was there a Chinese lady in waiting in the employ of Mary. The effeminate man in a dress that Mary addressed as "sister" was laughable. An otherwise good movie ruined by revisionist nonsense.

I couldn't believe it when I went to see it in the pictures. So politically correct. Also, did they just wear black and makeup back then?

We are certain there was at least one person of African descent at the Scottish Court around this time - Nageir the Moor. Anne of Denmark also had African servants.

@@Ftanftangfnarrr My point still stands. Lord Randolph was not black, and there were no Chinese lady-in-waiting in Mary's court. Give the script of a historical story to a woke woman and you end up with rubbish.

The entire movie is historically inaccurate, yet that's the part you choose to get hung up on? An ounce of diversity? Talk about rubbish...
