Gabekarr this is actually a theatre company I participate in called CYT. This is specifically the Fredericksburg branch but there are many branches around the country. If your actually interested in this just look up CYT

CYT is actually a theatre company all around the USA you could also participate CYT.org

I love the way the students are so involved with the technical aspects and are learning through problem solving and doing. Way to teach!

Schools with a tight budget already don’t spend that much money on the arts so I don’t know what you are advocating for with that comment. 3. are you really calling theatre just a “make believe” class? even after this amazing video? These kids are learning PRACTICAL lessons: Problem Solving = preparing young people for life. Performing on Stage = building confidence and communication skills. Castmates = learning to work with others. So please-- Do NOT cut school arts budgets ʕ•́؈•̀ʔ

xjAlbert yes! I wish I would’ve gotten an education like this in school. I’m in film school now but getting some hands on experience working on a production would’ve set me up early on. I’m now watching this video for ideas for a short film I’m shooting that needs to be one shot lol.

Who are you addressing your complaint to? What have you done to actively support schools that are struggling to keep classes financed on a strict budget? What about students who are not interested in theater or performing arts, why are they allowed to be shortchanged? Perhpas those interested in science should just be shoved aside for a "make-believe."

Apparently many places do S.T.E.A.M. to include Arts in the core.

I was in this! this was my first production ever with CYT, I remember being so amazed by the special effects! so fun to see all of my friends so little and baby faced...this special effects class made the show what it was, it turned out to have the highest amount of tickets sold ever for a CYT show.

Fantastic! As a former “pro” and having worked with some pretty well known special effects guys - this is really, REALLY good!!! And that you are working with kids makes it even better!!!

Fantastic ideas for production. you can put all the actors you want at it, but if the effects fall short, the illusion is lost. these are the important things. good work!

That is such a cool concept for a class!! I wish my high school had something like this. Our tech crew is great but having a class like this would be amazing. So many people I know want to be engineers but there are no classes that allow them that outlet. This is too cool on every level!!

How about looking into the cost such classes would require? That is hands on learning about the real world, it is called a budget.

@@christinemeleg4535 Lol I'm well aware of how much it would cost, hence why my school didn't have it. I did a whole research paper on high school drama clubs and budgeting for musicals in my 2nd year of undergrad. I WISHED my high school had a class like that because it would have made our experience a lot better. I never said it was realistic for our school. It was a wish.

I’m enraged. These are awesome. We literally. LITERALLY! Just closed our production of Mary Poppins yesterday. I’m so mad that KZread only just now decided to show me this video. We desperately could have used this information. I mean I think one of our prop makers saw this but man I wish our director (my dad) could have seen it. I’m literally crying right now. I’m sick. It’s Christmas in 2 days. The show is over. I’m so full of emotions right now

So cool especially that kids do a lot of it. I become an SFX guy because a producer for a TV Show called the Next Uri Geller asked me to perform after seeing some of my own created stage effects. But I declined so then they hired me as a consultant and SFX creator. And doing this work for a life show (whether it’s Theater or TV) is so much harder because you can’t “cut” or “reshoot”. The insane effects we designed and build in 6 days was even to myself mine blowing. And every week the requirements got more complex after the success of the previous week. One effect I had created was used in 3 different performances and just dressed up differently. The worst effect was (both in making it and performance) was 4 people witness a crime through a very quick set of random images (subliminal). And through hypnoses their get control in their mind to slow down the images. And the performer asks each person a question. Was it a man or woman, was the person black or white, was the victim a man or a woman what was the weapon a gun or a blunt object. And we literally had to find 64 outs! For all combinations. And we couldn’t find all the out for a woman. Women simply aren’t as ruthless killers as men. So I said: “you can ask it because intuition will say that the perp is man. I’d you don’t like to take that gamble you can say, I’ll make it easy on you the perp is obviously a man. Is it a black men or white men. And I guarantee you we instantly whittle it down to 16 white male perps because a white woman will not say on tv (even in 2009) it’s a black man. And funnily enough every rehearsal and the live show we ended up with the same out! I was actually following the flow chart and radio the time code to the director’s truck for the clip to be played when the video with the evidence was put in then vcr. And I had to ask a assistent producer to verify it because I couldn’t believe that 3 times in a row we got the exact same out 😆 Psychologically it makes sense - so in a sense true mentalism. But it was amazing to all of us. And what sold it even more, and threw it even our magician/mentalism colleague (who’s lived that tv show). Was that I hinted the performer that it was the same out. So he could say the name of the victim before that tape with the “evidence” was played.

My daughter’s school recently finished doing Mary Poppins (my daughter directed) and it went very well. They had the licensing to fly the actors above the stage.

I live near an arcade with a game that has the same effect and I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't real!

I do props and some limited sleight of hand effects for community theater from time to time. I'd like to think I'm clever, but this shows me that I have soooooo much to learn. Nice work!

Umbrellas were cool! BTW, 9 volt batteries have 6 AAAA batteries. They are slightly smaller than an AAA battery. You can order them from Staples.

Awesome! something similar I've done with classes like that is analyzing and recreating music videos. There's a lot of special and stage effects kids are interested in.

My idea for how to do the bag effect was to have a hole in the bag, or a slot that opens up, and have a hole in the table and underneath the table are items

I always thought it was stupid that so many people loved the idea of living in the usa (given all the shit that goes down there)... But every time I see stuff like this, this incredible theater tradition that starts with such young kids and it's so vast... Everytime I wish I could have been a "theater geek" growing up, that it was a thing available to me.

Oh man that little table with the bag is literally another effect I did for The Next Uri Geller. We had a chest with a trap door button and a table with a trapdoor table top. So allegedly someone’s wallet was stolen (that was a plant in the audience) and was in that chest. A celeb was selected by the mentalist brought into a trance and asked to mentally fly into the box into then wallet and tell how much money in bills there was. 20 he said He much money in coins 5 he said What bank the debit card was from. And the last name of that person. That table was tiny, we borrowed it from a Dutch illusionist. And this petit 19 year old girl could fit in. And we had a card printer in there, 500 euros in bills and change. And she would load the wallet, and push it through the table top through the chest’s collapsible button into the chest. When she did that we had a side effect as to also move the audiences eyes away from the obviously fair gap (the chest was on 1” feet). And there were 3 alleged pickpockets - I was one of them. And the celeb would feel the person and would then write down the number 1,2 or 3 which he thought was the perp. We had the same reveal with 3 outs on the video wall where we shut the guy being pickpocket whilst standing with the rest of the audience waiting for the studio doors to open. Obviously we went through that audience that night to create a memory of shady characters. But we actually shot the pickpocket even 3 days earlier when the German Uri Geller went out live from that same Dutch studio 🤣 That celeb was blown away! He just said I saw 20 euros, I saw 5 euros also in 2x2 euros and a single euro (luck or Mandela effect) and the name M de Boer popped in my mind! And it’s there! It’s all there! And in always thought this was fake! But the mentalist didn’t get near that chest! I got it out! I counted it! What?!?!

It would also work if there were a small uplift trap door on the stage floor, x marks the spot and set the bag over the spot. Trap door open, someone pushes a better hat stand up thru. A gold fish bowel etc

The front layer is a piece of plexiglass with most of the painting on it, and a clear spot in the middle where the flowers go. The back piece is just a blank canvas, stretched out and not attached at the bottom. Sandwiched in between is the flowers, arranged to show through the clear area. To perform the effect, pull the flowers down out of the frame, revealing the blank canvas behind them.
