I love the minimalist approach to the musical composition and the soft flow of the vocals. Usually her first singles are bangers but Mary can do what a lot of these other chicks can’t. She is the true Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. The depth of her music continues to move me. I’m loving the music, the passion and the pain of this song.

Me and this lady have gone through the same things around the same times it seems. She always comes back stronger with the love notes to heal us all. Can’t take that away from her!

I feel the same. It's sad that we as women have to go through so much, yes, I know some men do as well, but it really hits us. Then, like you said, Mary comes with words of our feelings, music to match. Gets us in and out of our feelings. Like good music should. I wish we could get back what we came with. If only those we are attracted to came with warning labels. So, we could save our emotions, hearts, time and even money. This song hit me. All of hers do, but I'm going through something. Right!!!! I love my mom but she is so Not Real, which is why we've always bumped heads. She is that family member that knows there is dysfunction but downplays it like everything is just honky dory. Example: One of my brother's is 38, has not worked in 12 years, still lives at home with her, has anger issues and has no problem unleashing on her and depends on her for everything from tissue to toothpaste. She lies and tells people that he works temp jobs, if they ask about him and acts like everything is normal with him. Plus, she makes excuses for him and gets mad when me or my sister tell her she's an enabler. It's like she's always scared that someone will find out about her wayward child so she goes out of her way to cover it up but nothing to force him to grow up. She's fake about so much more too. Sorry, I just needed to vent that. Anyway, back to Mary............she gives you the realness; her mistakes, shortcomings and all. She doesn't try to sugar it up just to make people think she doesn't have dysfunction in her life. I wish that my mom was like her.

Yes! I so feel this. Too many times I have been involved with men who took more than they gave and even just took period. I hope what doesn’t get missed in this song is how she is saying those who have been hurt are strong enough to do what is necessary to pick up and move on!
