First performed on July 7, 1956, "The Ballad of Baby Doe" is an opera by American composer Douglas Moore that explores the lives of mining magnate Horace Tabor, his wife Augusta Tabor, and future wife Elizabeth "Baby" Doe Tabor.
One of the work's most famous arias is Baby Doe's "The Willow Song," beautifully interpreted here by the great Mary Costa. It truly is an underrated gem in American music.
