Mary Blair is hired to work in Walt Disney’s gigantic and rigorously maintained garden. As he welcomes her and invites her to get to work, she starts producing plants magically. Although he is amazed, Walt cannot refrain from correcting and toning down Mary’s work behind her back…

    Seriously, these gobelins people are really brilliant. I never would have thought someone would be able to explain the Mary Blair and Walt Disney feud and compromise in such a short amount of time. Brilliant

    this is just my interpretation. while it's good to create, we should crub our passions lest it overrun us. the greenhouse was a good idea, because it allowed her to create as she wished, but still within certain bounds, so it didn't overrun the rest of the garden.

    I don’t know but I feel like they accidentally ruined their message. Clearly it represents Creativity vs Uniformity. Mary represents her unique ideas through a variety of shapes and colors while Walt has all of his ideas uniform and in the same color of a dull green. My problem arises where Mary can only let her ideas show in the green house and rather confined while Walt’s ideas are present everywhere else. I feel like this accidentally supports suppressing creativity. Instead of that conclusion, I feel like a better one was where we see the pros and flaws of both sides. Walt’s are uniform and orderly but shows no imagination and are rather dull. Mary’s ideas are beautiful but can be seen overwhelming and chaotic at times. My conclusion would be where Mary and Walt work together on the garden and showcase a variety of plants in different colors and shapes but organized and at least a little uniform.

    At the same time, it seems like Walt was there first, or that it's his garden or responsability. The two characters found a compromise, obtained that allows order on the estate and for Mary to have free expression on a piece of it, whole Walt has not obly his own expression, but maintains order. . Clean and uniform work isn't always bad

    Love the colors, the style...but not the story. I mean, the story is cool too, but it's so sad that she had to limitate her creativity and her talent.

  • @megelizabeth9492

    @megelizabeth9492

    What it’s Trying to get across is less about limitations, and more about finding your place. Mary was Walt's favorite artist at the studio, and while her modernist graphic style didn't really mesh with the more traditional, more three dimensional style that many Disney films used, her concept art and use of color still had a huge influence on classic Disney films from the 40s and 50s. In the context of this short, the things that she creates at first, while beautiful and creative, don't really fit in the setting of a formal garden. The other gardener points her towards the greenhouse, because it's a blank canvas, a place where she can flourish and inspire, without overtaking the other areas of the garden.

    Mon interprétation est la suivante: Mary veut etre elle meme, d'ou le fouillis de ses plantes. Elle n'entre pas dans le moule de la société actuelle. Malheureusement, c'est souvent dure de s'assumer d'ou ce personnage bien "carré " qui arrive et qui coupe les plantes de Mary. Mais comme ces plantes représentent la personnalité de Mary, l'homme en réalité la biaise afin qu'elle suive le troupeau et les normes imposées par la societe . L'homme fait comprendre a Mary qu'elle ne peut etre elle meme que en dehors des regards des autres, dans sa vie privé. Voila c'était mon interprétation de ce magnifique court métrage n'hésitez pas a me dire ce que vous en pensez.

    Il n'y a pas vraiment de place pour l'interprétation ici puisque les courts de 2015 sont des biographies de grandes femmes de l'animation. Ici, c'est l'histoire de Mary Blair, qui s'est en partie chargée de films tels que Alice au pays des merveilles ou Peter Pan. Il y a eu des conflits créatifs avec Walt Disney (celui qui coupe ses plantes) qui ont finalement pris fin quand celui-ci lui a laisser un champ restreint dans lequel exprimer sa grande créativité qui jurait un peu avec celle que souhaitait Walt Disney pour ses studios.
