Very nice Fort! I wish there were more toys being made today than in those days. Somehow everything was a bit more creative and adventurous.

The kid next door got a Civil War set for Christmas 1961. I thought it was the coolest thing I ever saw. I finally got mine for Christmas 1962, I got the giant battle of the Blue and Gray. My set did not come with a falling horse and rider. Despite what many Marx collectors think, the falling horse and rider was introduced in 1961. My friend next door got one in his set for Christmas 1961. It was dark charcoal gray as were all of his Rebs.

In 1962 or 63 I got two Marx Civil War sets for Christmas. One from my parents the other from my aunt and uncle. Best Christmas.

While some of the Confederates did come in a darker gray, the falling rider only came in cream. So- if your friend got a gray rider- that would be a rare and valuable piece.

The tin litho building actually came in four styles over the years- three were very similar, with one having 'US Cavalry Supply', another having "US Cavalry Stables" and a third having "US Cavalry HQ". Another style had no plastic porch-porch being painted on the front, windows were also different and it had a roof portice piece which said "US Cavalry HQ".

You must have the Marx Fort Apache King of the playsets book or you are very old and had parents that got you everything! I have the book, but only several of the HQ buildings I had a devil of a time finding a porch that wasn't warped or broken. Anyway, thanks for checking me out and taking the time to comment. Thank you very much!

You had some very cool sets! I hope some of it survived, but mom's were tough on those. First chance a mom had and the set would be sold in a garage sale!

No none of them survived. I was pretty hard on them . We took the sets out into the backyard, in the garden friends houses etc . The funny part is , my kids would find army men in the backyard and they would show me. Then i would make them bury them again for someone else to find

It's funny that way before I watched your channel I started and still do call my female orange 🍊 Tabby cat Iggy. I enjoy your channel and will keep watching because most of the stuff you show makes me Drool. I'm not jealous but a little envy might be involved. PEACE ☮️ CAMERON.

It's funny, but I don't get jealous easily. I see a guy in a car better than mine and I just say good for him. I see a guy with a pretty girl and I just think that is wonderful, BUT I see a guy with a toy I always wanted I feel a bit envious! Lol! I will make a video one day of how I got the name Iggy. It involves the American Civil War....

I got a fort like this from my aunt in the early 1960s. I told my roommate toys have been replaced by video games. She said, all you baby boomers played with sticks and stones outside. I admitted she was right. We had mean neighborhood rock fights and sword fights with sticks.

I think computer games are a poor substitute for what we had. We learned history and how to be creative. A cardboard box could be a fort or a rocket. The sky was the limit to what we could do! Thanks for sharing with me.

The Blockhouse over the gate was used in 1958 Rin Tin Tin Fort Apache set. 1959 gate was a one of a kind for just that one year. Fort Dearborn did not use the Blockhouse, but it did use the last building I showed you. The block house was not used in Heritage sets. It was used in the final years of the Marx Fort Apache.

The Run Tin Tin set was one of my absolute favorite childhood toys. If I remember correctly, it included white plastic figures of the main characters from the TV series, so one could recreate adventures from the show...great fun!

Great to hear from you Dom! I hope you won't think of me as a sentimental old fool, but I miss you tremendously! I never had the Fort Apache set when I was a kid, but now I have 5. I don't think I have proper priorities. I wonder why my wife left me? Anyway, isn't it fun to remember those things from the days when our worries were fewer?

Have to correct you on the HQ. The original was about '58, no cupola, no doors, no chimney, no porch. Before that, around '55, there was just a log cabin, also metal.

That was a cool story. It is interesting that Hollywood seized upon the Indian fort attack story for nearly every western they made! It is also interesting that the only troops attacked in that manner were Buffalo soldiers. Hollywood doesn't cover that very much either. Great story that you brought to my attention. Thank You!

@@ewmhop Fort Mims comes to mind, but one of the most interesting stories is the massacre of Major Dade's command. Out west there is the attack on Fort Lancaster in Texas, but generally speaking western forts were given a wide berth. I've seen a number of forts out west (Fort Tejon in California) and they don't look anything like Hollywood forts. Many locations are just foundations and a sign. Here in Florida I enjoy going to a rebuilt Fort called Fort Christmas. The blockhouses are very similar to Marx blockhouse. We have lots of Civil War forts too like Fort Clinch (started construction pre war) I like Fort King George. I went to a star Fort in Maryland that was super cool and Fort Washington is one of my favirites. St Augustine is a favorite. One of the worst reproductions is Fort Caroline in Jacksonville. It was made by volunteers and Boy Scouts. I liked Fort Pulaski and the French Fort in Mobile Bay. There is others I have seen, but apart from Boonesboro I have seen very little in the north. I really want to see Fort Ticonderoga and West Point. Then I want to see Quebec. One day....one day. I hope I didn't bore you. Not many people are Interested, so I appreciate your comments.

These are about 54mm or 1/32. (Marx played loose with scale so it is not precise) but It is compatible with classic toy soldier sizes.
