His label asked him to do a disco track and he didn't want to. He wrote this thinking they would reject it. The longer version is on the album.

I was around 14 when this song came out. We used to hang out at the park on Sundays and I remember hearing this song coming from the lowriders who were cruising through the park, showing off their cars. I loved it and this song!

Asia & BJ, you'll love Marvin's "Lets Get It On" !!! He had amazing duets with Tammi Terrell such as "Aint No Mountain High Enough", "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" and "You're All I Need to Get By"!!!

@Benaboo73 The original "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" was by Marvin and Tammy in 1967. Diana covered it solo 1970(not a duet). Look it up and learn something.

Sure, and while you're at it, maybe, JUST maybe, you can be nice instead of insinuating that I'm stupid. Learn something? Really? I don't think Asia and B.J. would appreciate the attitude you've copped. You could have phrased it better, instead of being so rude.

From what I understood, Marvin Gaye was very reluctant to record anything that had to do with the hottest sound in the world at the time "DISCO". Turned out it didn't matter as this song hit Number 1 not only on the Disco charts but No 1 on both the Hot 100 and R&B charts in the Summer of '77. Fun Fact: @ 3:42 Marvin Gaye pays tribute to Soul Train's Don Cornelius he greets by saying "Say Don, say Don. Hey man, I didnt know you was here"...

Members of Gaye’s family sued Thicke and Williams, along with rapper and featured artist on the song, T.I., in 2013 for copyright infringement of Gaye’s 1977 hit song “Got to Give It Up. Long drawn-out copyright battle over Robin Thicke’s 2013 song “Blurred Lines” has ended after a judge ordered Thicke and Pharrell Williams to pay almost $5 million to Marvin Gaye’s estate in the case’s final ruling.

I always loved Marvin Gaye when I was a little girl, still do 1985. I remember asking my Mom about his dad shooting him, and she said sometimes bad things happen to good people. 😢 I can't even begin to think the music he could have made, he was a genius, so talented. 😢 You two should check out "Missing You" by Diana Ross, the song is in memory of him, they were real good friends! Great reaction! ❤
