I'd be willing to bet part of the reason it's taking so long as Wesley Snipes problem with racial stuff. He's made comments to the press as well as to the public that is extremely racist. That's one of the reasons why they picked a different blade for the other marvel movies involving him

In the last 5 years, Blade could have had two movies and at least 2 cameos and one collab project by now

Its a movie about a black, day-walking vampire who hunts other vampires, with existing storylines and lore to pull from, and they can't get it right. This is sad 😢

The continuous delays are getting to the point where the Blade movie will coincide with the next time the Dallas Cowboys make the Superbowl

I know right, just have it set 100 years in the past of the MCU showing Blades birth of his mom, getting bitten by Dracula and him being born and raised in Britain and then have it be where he fights Dracula and kill him and his mom. Then cut to President Day, 100 years later Dracula is revived and blade must kill him again, but it’s in the modern day MCU

If this movie doesn’t have the appeal and believability of The Queen Damned w/ Ashanti, I don’t want it. I want GOT dark scenes, Batman-like combat, a solid story-line, and at least a decent script. Come on Marvel, in the wake of JM’s controversy and CB’s passing, please throw your weight behind Blade.

On one hand, glad he’s not settling for garbage! On the other, bro could’ve crowd sourced this movie by now!!!

If they just wanted a strong female character the movie would have been put already. They're having trouble writing the movie bc they don't know where to put it. I think they should just save it for the next phase when they focus on mutants and other monsters. It would probably be much easier to find a place to fit it in during that phase.

Not really. Most major films have a 3 year turn around. The only reason this film is getting traction is because of the development issues, otherwise it's not surprising at all for industry vets. Titanic, Phantom Menace, Cabin in the Woods, and hundreds of others took longer to get released.

Please do Blade justice. I'd like Blade and Ghost Rider to have a simular theme.

They better not come weak for Blade.

Ali is wanting to put a good product, after the bar being set so high after it's first rendition. The marvel fatigue is real, but not because of the poor writing -- yet due to scheduling to push out as much content. Let's go back to phase one schedule setting. One or two well written movies a year is prime.

Nah, man, it is definitely bad writing and bad movies that are building fatigue. No fan ever said, hey let's space out those content drops for really good movies.

On one hand I want Blade already, on the other hand hearing that he views this as his “Black Panther” gives me some hope for the film. Mahershala wanting it to be that good at least shows that whatever Marvel has done wasn’t maybe up to code. Hopefully the new script is up to par and if any leaks come out they are pretty solid

Ali is smart. He’s investing into it like RBJ with iron man, HJ with Wolverine, or RR with Deadpool.

We once went a whole year without anything Marvel but KZread related rumors. When they came back - the quality dropped because they rushed. Blade is the true savior of Marvel films and deserves that kind of respect. If it takes a few years, so be it.

Why don't they just get David S. Goyer to do it again.. He produce and directored the 1st blade movie

No. David S. Goyer wrote all 3 Wesley Snipes' Blade movies, he only directed the 3rd movie, that was his first time directing.

Stephen Norrington directed the first, Guillermo del toro did the second and David s Goyer did the 3rd.

Michael, I enjoy watching your timely Marvel Studios updates and your own analyses on developments, plot lines, etc. And while I understand your reluctance to travel down any roads that are even somewhat controversial, any discussion of Marvel's many Phase 4/5/6 problems, and especially any discussion of the problems that have mired BLADE, seems incomplete (if not intentionally omissive) if Disney's corporate DEI policies and hiring practices -- especially those which have recently come to light -- are not addressed. I'm a lifelong comics fan/reader/collector, a huge Marvel Studios fan who has great respect for the Universe they've created, not to mention a former Disney employee, and the last thing I want to happen is for the characters and franchises / IPs that Disney has the high responsibility and privilege of overseeing to be handled poorly or mismanaged to any degree. But the undeniable and obvious problems with the STAR WARS THE ACOLYTE series and those which seem to have permeated Lucasfilm for years clearly are not contained to just Skywalker Ranch. As but one example: you state in this video, given the less-than-experienced list of directors Marvel has presented Mahershala Ali with, the actor has taken the task of finding a director upon himself, and the reasons for this that you outline -- cost, wanting to have control over the director in order to create the movie by committee -- have you admitting that their actions don't really explain why Marvel Studios has gone after green directors and writers who have very little experience doing blockbuster films, and many of whom may be doing their first work on these films. While several very reputable channels on You Tube have long been talking about the ramifications of Identity Politics so endemic at Disney, the O'Keefe Media Group's just-released video with Disney Senior Vice President Michael Giordano literally confirming and specifically detailing Disney's highly discriminatory Woke business practices, especially those where it comes to hiring talent that is not qualified for the jobs they're given but who are given them for the "diversity" that they represent (by a person of color, a female, a person of a certain sexuality/gender, or someone with a disability) makes this matter something that can no longer be avoided. Marvel's biggest failures post-Endgame --- She-Hulk (Jessica Gao, showrunner), Eternals (Chloé Zhao, director), The Marvels (Nia DaCosta, director), and now Blade (former directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange) -- are blatantly indicative of Disney and Bob Iger's misguided and destructive political agenda. Whether Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, or especially and specifically Marvel, no one with a voice should overlook this very serious issue or pretend that it doesn't exist. It's clear, from the current The Acolyte debacle, that much mainstream media is unsurprisingly supportive of Disney, as opposed to the overwhelming majority of the fans and independent media, none of whom are beholden to Disney or whose jobs rely on favorable reviews. It's a poor, sad creator who blames their fans for the failure of their product. When I watch your updates, I truly appreciate your enthusiasm and love for Marvel Studios, both of which come across very clearly and which create the environment of true fandom and untouchable superhero fantasy which draws viewers to your channel. I want the fantasy that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given us to remain healthy and move forward to bigger and better things as much as anyone, but there's a hard dose of reality that has directly impacted the MCU's ability to do so well, or as in the case of Blade's five-year delay, to move forward at all. I encourage you to join the discussion on this very serious matter; it's a very big part of "Everything," and more of a threat to Marvel's movie universe than HYDRA, Ultron, Thanos, Kang, Mephisto, Galactus, The Beyonder and all of their Multiversal Variants combined could ever possibly be.

I was wondering why Ali kept sticking around.

I remember my family had the Blade Trilogy on DVD when I was younger and I had no idea it was a comic book movie.

They just want it to be perfect, and I'm glad they're reworking it until it's right.

To be fair, it makes the people in charge look incapable when all of these changes are made over and over. Wanting it to be right is one thing, but being capable of making it and delivering that best product is looking more and more questionable with those we have calling the shots currently. I think Disney and Marvel may be a combination that just doesn’t work when producing a Blade we actually want.

I think the reason why MA hasn’t left yet is because it’s basically his project. He’s as involved as Marvel Studios is. Hence there being a lot of weight on him just like the studio. But as long as he’s still passionate about the role things should be ok

I suspect a big part of the issue now is making it really tie in with all the recent adjustments to the mcu and the proximity now to what would have been a much later midnight sons film.

Ali is perfect for BLADE! I hate to see pure talent waiting on the line, but if this angles a Midnight Sons movie...I am very intrigued.

Mahershala Ali’s unwavering commitment to the movie being great no matter how long it takes to make it happen is what keeps my hope alive. I’m glad that Marvel has taken a different approach here and let him take the driver seat on the project. Let’s face it if Mahershala wasn’t steering the ship the studio would have crapped out another subpar film just to get on with things. I’m excited for what’s next because it’s certainly going to be great as long as Mahershala Ali is on the project.

Unbelievably disappointed I have missed the Xmen97 finale but can not wait to find out what else is in store for my favorite heroes.

I watched blade 1 and 2 just recently and it still holds up. I really wished they just continued with Wesley. He needs a redemption arc... My favorite actor (since Weird Science) Tony got one...

While I admire everyone's stick-to-it-iveness, this length of delays does not bode well. I hope I'm wrong.

Really looking forward to Blade. It's always been one of those movies that inspired me and inspired many others and changed vampires to be something literally bad ass man. If they are taking their time on this movie for how long it's been. You can tell the finished product will probably blow everyone out the water when it releases, I hope it's done well.

They need to hire Misha Green to direct & write Blade. They also need to bring back Wesley Snipes as Jamal Afari.

Even though it's been 5 years, I can say that I'm glad they aren't rushing anything. With that said, considering each phase has taken 2-4 years to set up, they got to get the ball rolling if they want to do a non-Avenger team up film while dodging Avengers 5 & 6 hype. Unless, the plan is to squeeze some of the characters in. I suppose it's tough to introduce a new "dynamic" amidst a future soft reboot.

It's not even just filmmaking by committee, it's also about headhunting talent for future projects. The reality is Chris Nolan and James Cameron are up there in age so headhunting them now, and dealing with their production needs is a non starter a lot of the time. But if they pull in green directors with promise that means contractual obligations to marvel studios for years to come and building a relationship that can extend to other Disney projects. That's why say Tarantino, for example, worked almost solely with the Weinstein company, because that's where he had carte blanche after decades of work.

Blade is one of the very few upcoming movies I’m excited for. Please get it right!
