    Nicely played by Dera, fun to see both hands and how strong Scorpion and Master Mold were in this matchup. In normal Snap the best you can do is guess at what those cards are doing, so this presented a rare opportunity to really see how they screw over the opponent. I'm still a little flummoxed by Dera's Shang Chi-right-but-lose-the-breaker loss to Speci (tho Dera won that match), so it's hard to feel like he really looked like a grand champion, but the guy really is a great Snap player and his Snap/retreat decisions were dead on, completely unimpeachable. For Jeff, he ran into a deck tech'd to beat his bounce and also his luck ran out. (He's probably the best Snap player out there, but he's not QUITE as dominant as he looked in the upper bracket -- his nearly flawless run had most the high-leverage 50/50's go his way.) Fun tourney, just fix the little technical issues (how many times did the casters get tricked by the invisible final cube?) and re-work the display so we can see both players' plays. Good job all around.

    The Shang Chi right side was a clear just miscalculation on my part as the casters even missed it. I knew wong would come over with the arnim play, I was calculating all the other possibilities on top of an arnim play and wanted to cover my bases, but in the mix of all the calculations missed the fact that my 7 wouldn't be bigger than his 7. My one big misplay of the lower bracket, hard to not make any.

    @@derajn Ha, yeah, my comment was a bit harsh. I mean, going a dozen or so games and limiting myself to just one misplay like that would probably be a personal best, so what the hell am I criticizing. You built a great deck, played it well, snapped/retreated perfectly (and I don't mean based on outcome, I mean based on what you knew at the time). A really great performance. It's just I was one of the handful of people yelling "no! 7 only ties!" at my screen like an idiot, and you were definitely who I wanted to come through the lower bracket, so that miss stuck with me. 22:15 is the moment Jeff threw the match. Optimal play was Rock right + Falcon left. That would make 9 in Kamar-Taj, next turn Bast right, Darkhawk middle and Korg left. 13-23-1. Although Dera had the best possible luck (which was quite annoying to watch), can't argue he outplayed Jeff. GG.

    Think Jeff really misplayed at 33:52 playing scorpion over goose on turn 2. If he played goose on 2 then stormed the remaining location on 3, Dera would be able to play exactly 1 4 energy card and no others which should be a really winning position for Jeff. By playing scorpion and delaying goose and storm by 1 turn you let the opponent play a sera, allowing to once again play 4 energy cards into sinister London (via the cost reduction from sera). Overall pretty well played and fun to watch though, just wanted to point this out as I think Jeff should have been really favoured seeing sinister London, goose and storm in the opener.

    Don't underestimate Jeff, though. Dera's deck counters Jeff's bounce pretty well. Scorpion essentially was a 2/9 in one of the games with all the stats it took away, while master mold clogs his hand up, preventing bounce and draw, he also has Killmonger, and finally, Shang punishes Bishop and Angela if they get too big. It really is a rough matchup. I don't see how Jeff could win with that deck here against another pro. In a situation with two pros of similar skill levels, the better matchup wins. It's why switching decks somehow should eventually be a thing.

    I don't think so. A lot of luck was involved. Both are on a similar level. Both made optimal plays with the cards they had. The locations and draws went Dera's way in the second match. In the first match, despite having a deck that's completely countered by his opponent, Jeff did relatively well. The room for level gap in a game like Marvel Snap isn't that high. This isn't chess. I think Jeff's biggest missteps were in his aggressive Snapping and overall cube management. Should've played it more safe.

    Bit of a twist ending, as someone who wasn't following the revised deck-lists post nerf. Jeff certainly caught lightning in a bottle pre-Quin Jet / Thanos Nerf, kind of deserved the win in standard tournament- but props to Dera for adapting. Certainly a sub optimal way to run a tourney, but very entertaining for us viewers.

    @@juliotorres3147 your idea of how a tournament is structured is laughable. Need only look at every major competition and sporting event. To say the integrity of the tournament wasn't compromised is some nice intellectual dishonesty or willful blindness so profound that if someone served you literally a plate of shit for dinner youd say it was delicious and give me more. Have fun trolling or coping, or both, but trying to argue with you someone that has zero logic or sense of what a 'tournament' by necessity should comprise of is not worth any more of my time.

    I felt like I got the lowest end of the stick with the deck resubmission, I purposefully put my stronger deck in the lower bracket as a strategy and never got to play it. I resubmitted a deck that I thought in the post-patch meta would hold up well against what most people were likely to bring. (wave/she-hulk, sandman, and shuri). I think I wouldve had an even greater chance of winning out if I got to go up against Jeff and the others with the undisputed best deck in the game pre-patch (which is what I had brought - Thanos Lockjaw)

  • @lannguyen902
    @lannguyen902 Жыл бұрын

    This was a good first tournament but maybe next time, have the entire tournament done over one weekend so new stuff does not come in the middle of the tournament and reset the meta. Since these are pre-recorded and not played live with players on both sides recording their views then it should be easy to get all of the matches done over one weekend. Before anyone says but it is not fair, stop and think one thing, do you think every single person that enters and plays in a Pokemon TCG or Yu-Gi-Oh tournament are professionals. No, most of them are regular people that have to take time out of their schedule to fully commit to come out to a venue and play in the tournament. Playing competitive Marvel Snap should not be any different. If someone cannot commit a full weekend to play in a Marvel Snap tournament then maybe they should not be a competitive Marvel Snap player then.

    Jeff had nearly every RNG outcome against him... every time scorpion after Bast.... if its reversed he wins probably... Dera forgot about Zabu und said he added Scorpion and would prefered Zabu over him. Also jeff revealed after Deras Master Mold with Darkhawk in cloning vats... another RNG outcome made him lose. Strange Academy also... if demon lands in lechuguillia then Dera cant win mojo world by killmonger the demon and also jeff has room for a card to win there. So its quite sad seeing a player lose of 5-6 RNG outcomes.. Dera played well, but had some hickups early, but was flawless in losers bracket and against jeff. jeff played pretty perfect the whole tourney, made insane reads and if the balance patch didnt happen and the long wait between the rounds, i think he wins easy.. no one was prepared for bounce but dera had a long time for preparing, making a counterdeck and could submit it because they altered the rules... not quite fair but hey.... congratz to dera. Edit after watching: Dera: - always Scorpion and Master Mold by Turn 2 - always getting good locations for darkhawk and drawing hawk, especially before district x and getting another one... + having rockslide and korg - always having the right priority for mold / scorpion / shang / killmonger - doges gambit - gets the benefit of RNG locations (kamar taj with doom, starlight citadel to change flooded perfect, lechuguillia, district x) Thats such a one sided match dude.. its like hitting lottery jackpot 3 times in a row...
