I was also very disappointed when I found out Shocker is never going to appear again because ever since the Spider-Man animated show from the 90s I've been a huge fan of Shocker. I want to see some justice given to his name but I was throughly disappointed. Also who likes Screwball?

You should play spiderman 2 on ps2 it has plenty of shocker

So many plot holes, inconsistencies and bugs and glitches still persist even after this supposed hyped up update was supposed to fix everything. Definitely wasn’t worth the money or the wait, but we’ll just have to make do because it’s not like we can get a Spider-Man game from anyone else at the moment.

Three months ago, I would’ve bashed anybody who dare speak ill of this game. But after playing it all the way through and revisiting it, I can conclude that this game is not perfect in any way, shape or form. It’s an amazing game, but even Spider-Man 1 and Miles Morales was more replayable than this. It’s probably due to the fact that the game is just completely done now. And now we’re just eagerly waiting for more content that should’ve already been introduced. Anyway, I still love the game, but I can definitely see where the complaints are coming from. I respect your opinion.

I enjoyed the game a lot even on release, but I was very disappointed with the story’s lack of well… stakes. There just isn’t much tension or consequences for any of the bad things that happen, and all of the characters are shockingly nice to each other which is unnatural as hell.

The symbiote part of the story was so rushed. Instead of a good build up, Spiderman just becomes a complete POS so fast when he gets the black suit.

BEST REVIEW OF THE GAME. The story, characters, world building, execution, story telling and treatment of Peter (so basically everything) is terrible.

I completely agree with you, the gameplay could've also been way greater. Kind of like web of shadows with Peter. Changing suits at will, Miles... He is already OP as he is, so he remains the same...

that's the problem it copied to much from treyarch's web of shadows game including it's plot element even gameplay features from raimi spider-man game trilogy like the charge jump, web slingshot and etc it nothing new, it has been done before 2 decades ago. it's selling feature for this game was the web slingshot again it was done before then with the web wingsuit the game literally turns into superman 64 by flying through rings. lmfao

Well edited and an underrated channel. I personally dislike the critique that web-swinging isn't physics based, and I think it's extremely overstated at this point lol. To each their own. Other than that, I think you're spot on about what went wrong with the story. I like to believe that Insomniac was rushed by Sony (or "higher ups") and that's why we got this story. I definitely agree that the lack of content is extremely disappointing. The first game had so much to do, and I'm surprised Insomniac didn't fit more in. Miles Morales suffered the EXACT same problem.

Awesome video. I completely agree with all of your thoughts. It’s unfortunate how the game, in its aspirations to build upon and be more ambitious with Spider-Man than its predecessor, seems to juggle more than it can hold. It almost feels that many at Insomniac wanted the game to be more than it was but couldn’t fulfill every idea it had in the time they were allotted. The game seems to be a narrative mess, fun as it may be. I’ve been thinking how crazy it is that Insomniac is able to produce so many releases in such a short amount of time, especially in an era of the industry where many triple A studios often take more than half a decade to release just a single game. It’s still impressive to me that they’re able to do so however the sacrifice becomes clear to anyone who peers into its cracks.

The whole open world and map is just so disappointing compared to the first game. Not once have I wanted to repeat the game at all unlike the first where I’ve completed it about 10 times.

The side content are improved. First game may have more content but more content doesn't mean better because quality over quantity. Marvel's Spider Man 2 may have lesser content but its improved as its less repetitive and less filler. Although they could have had more variety. The first one had more content but its mostly boring and unnecessary filler missions and repetitive.

@@q4dxpq60 Wraith and Mysterio side missions were awesome as well. Say what you will about having lesser content then the first but quality over quantity. First one is full of boring filler and feels like a chore to complete while in Marvel's Spider Man 2 is feels less of a chore

I basically forgot all about those 2 side missions because it felt like I was just doing them for the sake of completion unlike the first game in which I actually enjoyed them even if they were repetitive

The first act was really slow, the second act was genuinely great and the third act overstayed its welcome. Once I beat the game I uninstalled it

I liked this game imma be honest, but it was inferior to the first one. They handled they whole being spider-man has negative consequences well and i enjoyed the hell out of the gameplay which was an upgrade to the first one. But the story was really messy. Kraven was dissapointing. The whole point of Kraven is being this rutheless hunter stalking you, feeling his breath at the back of your neck at all times. All we got was 2 boss fights if i remember correctly. Instead we keep fighting his goons which do most if not all the hunting work for him, which imo is really out of character. I liked the concept of Harry being Venom. We had it coming tho from the post credits scene. But the whole symbiote alien invasion apocalypse thing didnt do it for me. I really disliked that they took it that way. Also i wanted more developement for Bully Lowenthal. His growth into a corrupted piece of shit by the symbiote was really incosisent. But i liked the popping pills scene, neglecting his dying friend over keeping the suit for himself, but again, incosistent and could've be done better. The Miles colgate suit at the end was really bad. The Miles Morales original concept happened in the Miles Morales game where Miles grows past being Spider-Man's Robin, making his own suit and being his own hero. Growing into a man. A Spider-Man. What disturbed me most was when i found out that the suit was placed just for an ADIDAS sponsorship. Even if they had to put it in, they should've approached it differently. Also they were bugs and glitches made the experience worse even after the updates. The game felt really short, i finished it quite fast and went platinum too. I've played the first game so many times i can't get enough and i am never bored of it. That's not the case here. While a good game gameplay wise, it doesn't have much more to offer. Also the crime fighting theme is so reused, it feels lazy and super repetitive. Unlike the first one, here i didnt even bother with crimefighting. It felt more like a chore to me. But the sides missions where really good and done exceptionally well. Oh and the black cat mission was so meh. Besides all that i believe Insomniac had a vision and good intentions for this game. They put their hearts in this and you can see their love for spider-man and his mythos. Besides it's problems it somehow still works and makes it a solid game. Can't wait for the 3rd one tho.

Hate is bad indeed I do hoped JJJ learns that and he lets it go then reformed to be a better man and start trusting the spider men more as an ally like in the current comics recently he must be better than he used to be like what mysterio and Tombstone did to reform themselves from who they used to be I hoped that happens in the third game than just him being a 2 dimensional ass like in every game he is in danika is better than him though but alas give jjj a character development for once in a lifetime just like the 90s cartoon did at least it give his character development justice like what the comics did at the time.

I’ll take to my grave that everyone who knows Spider Man should be able to play the PS games, but I totally agree with your points. The parts it does get right, like the combat and character portrayals, are spectacular but more room for the Symbiote story to expand by removing the Miles fluff would have definitely helped

I hope they release a director’s cut so they can fix the game and make a 9 or even a 10/10

And now they want to add silk they couldn’t even do two Spider-Man properly why should people keep faith in Insomiac

I feel like instead of doing the two characters in the same storyline, they should have done it like GTA IV where you choose between Miles and Peter and play THEIR storyline. I feel like it could have flushed things way better than it did here.

Eh the game was amazing and I'm still playing after all these months, definitely my favorite Spider-Man game of all time 100% , i really don't understand the hate.

The overall game is really good but like many games nowadays the story has many flaws because it tries to do so many things (which eventually leads to a lack of depth in many areas) and I actually did think exactly what you thought about the ideas that they should have “swapped plots” with the two characters, sort of like they were trying to checkmark everything they wanted to do in a single game. Honestly I think they just wanted to get the story bits done and out of the way to get into a broader world with many super heroes 🦸‍♀️ unfortunately

This exactly my problem with the game the combat has basically no improvements from the first game and I saw so many reviewers say “oh them taking out most the gadgets improved the gameplay a lot” which I think is ridiculous because first off removing a feature that was originally optional will never be an improvement since you don’t have to use it to begin with and in the first game I never used gadgets to begin with so I don’t see the improvements of something I never used. They could’ve made the combat more smoother, way more combat animations, add some really fun combat interactive but no it just felt like a water down version of the Arkham series which came out over 10 years ago. The story was so boring and annoying that it made it way too hard to finish the game. I think a lot of game developers tend to forget how to write a fun story but have dramatic elements, having just a corny dramatic story is just hard to engage with, like how can you make the most interesting characters in spider-man and make them so boring? The web swinging is really the best part of the game and is where you actually see improvements.

Eh that’s your thoughts I thought it was fun and nice especially cause it had symbiote spiderman my main the only thing that pisses me off is that when you finish the game the white symbiote will be all you get all the power it will only be the new anti symbiote not black rage symbiote it’s so dumb but other than that I’m not judging you or anything that’s just your thoughts and I have my thoughts you do have a few points but that doesn’t make me dislike it

Great video dude and i totally agree with you. This game was such a disappointment, they should’ve delay the game for an another year cause it felt so rushed and too safe. And with the recent Insomniac leaks, it sounded like there was so much cool stuffs they cut out from the game like more boss fights, more Venom gameplay and buildings getting damage while in combat.

Ok, so the only thing you're doing in this video is spoiling the entire plot. I've been playing the game, and found it to be pretty crappy. I was hoping to hear some opinions on the actual gameplay and design. Not some crappy story synopsis.

I'm going to finish it, but I found myself disappointed by the gameplay. The combat feels worse than ever. The skill tree is lame. The gadgets are boring. I went on KZread to see if other people felt the same way. One big gripe I had last night was how weak Spider-Man feels. Why do I have to hit a normal enemy 25 times to knock them out? It just makes the combat feel like a boring slog. It's cool if you want to make a video about the story synopsis, but it would be helpful if you listed that in the title of your video. That's honestly where my gripe came from. Thanks for giving me a reply, bro. Keep up the good work.

Kraven just wanted a good last hunt. Logic had nothing to do with it. Plus, fighting against Venom demonstrated he was in control of his fate. As he was staring down at Venom from the rooftop building, he knew he was staring at death itself, but he wanted death itself to earn him. Essentially, a skilled hunter looking for one last good hunt. Insomniac's Kraven reminds me of Kratos in God of War 3. Causing so much destruction in New York. He's the reason why Venom started to evolve.

I did get some hate but overall not much

I really enjoyed Spiderman Web of Shadows. A really cool and original use of the symbiote. Having essentially a zombie Apocalypse, but with everyone being infected with the symbiote. It was so fun and epic.

Wasted opportunity the game.

Absolutely invalid points: - Kraven's comic accurate in here. This is by far the best Kraven we got in any media as Kraven isn't hunting for the sake of hunting, he has cancer and wants to find a worthy opponent to die from a warrior death. Insomniac done justice here. - Venom: Venom doesn't want to take over the world for no reason, Harry wants to help people with the same suffering as him, but the symbiote gives him the twisted version of what he wants. Venom was great but needed more screentime. He is a sympathetic character - Peter having the symbiote had more then enough. He can't keep it longer as Harry needs it more then him. The longer he keeps it then Harry woukd die soon. You saw Harry using a walking cane and that shows he is running out of time. Peter is angry because he was overprotective as he doesn't want to lose anyone he cares about anymore. Especially after he lost May. - Peter wasn't nerfed at all as both Peter and Miles got equal amount of defeats. Peter beated more baddies then Miles ever did. Peter beated Lizard, Venom, Kraven, Wraith and Scream. Miles only beated Mr Negative and Mysterio. - Miles was given a good character arc as well. - The side content are improved. -Venom is not a sympathetic character. You said it yourself that Harry's vision is twisted by the symbiote into what it wants, not what Harry wants. We also see this manipulation demonstrated when Peter is told by Venom to kill Kraven, as well as what happens to MJ with the Scream transformation. None of that would tell the player that Venom is a sympathetic character but would instead indicate the exact opposite: that it uses a host to achieve its own twisted vision, which causes a substantial amount of destruction along the way. -The amount of time Harry has without the symbiote is entirely dependent on the structure of the story. They could have explored more into Peter's addiction with the symbiote, but they chose to cut it short. At best, it feels rushed and we only get a handful of moments that really stand out as a result (those being when Peter confronts MJ and Harry, and Peter's comments during the lizard fight). -Peter did not beat Venom or Scream. He defeated the Lizard and Kraven while having the symbiote, and he also was originally killed by Kraven without even getting a shot on him. Peter was also almost killed by Sandman and Venom and had to be subsequently saved by Miles both times. Despite Anti-Venom Peter being defeated during the fight with Venom, Miles is able to fight Venom to a standstill. Miles also fights Venom Peter to a standstill. -Could you please expand on why you believe Miles' arc was good? I'm not saying you're right or wrong necessarily, I just wanna know your thoughts.
