This is Marty Grosz, a true American treasure, at his comedic, vocal, and instrumental best Marty is playing with the group he calls The Orphan Newsboys - the wonderful, late Bobby Gordon on clarinet, talented Peter Ecklund on cornet, along with top notch bassist Greg Cohen. .

I only looked up Marty Grosz because (you may be unaware) his father was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century- George Grosz!

I first heard a vid of Marty Grosz a few years ago but could never remember his namer. Just recently (May 2021) a vid of his 'popped up out of the blue' and and now I can watch him ad libitum... in 5 4 time ...avoiding B sharp ! i think he has a fantastic stage personality and I am surprised he is not more well known in UK. He has the kind of humour that goes down well over hear. (IMO anyway ) He's a good guitarist too !

Brilliant. Marty needs to write a book about his life as a musician. He is a genius on the guitar but he also can create amazing pictures with his choice of words.

Memories of the Cornerstone bar and jazz club, Metuchen, NJ, circa 1999. I think it was only a couple times I saw Marty and Peter together. I missed a lot of great gigs.

Thank you, Don! You know, though, that KZread has silently increased its ten-minute limit to fifteen? I learned this from a fellow poster, and you'll note that my recent TIGER RAG (apologies for the plug) is the new length? Cheers, and have a wonderful time at the 2011 Arbors Festival . . . !

I have to look at this one every few months. Forget the guitar playing - if I could ever come up with an intro half this funny I could die a happy man!

Give this one a galaxy of DOWN BEAT stars! How wonderful that you are sharing this with us . . . may one quietly ask if there are any more performances on video by this band? The very definition of easy swing!

@swingyoucats Yes-I have the entire session. Some songs may exceed the 10 minute limit so I have to cut some of the talking.

Clarinetist plays like P.W. Russell, cornetist like a mixture of Rex Stewart and Wild Bill Davison. Who are they?

Grosz is fabulous, but I'm no big fan of Pee Wee Russell, and even less a fan of people imitating Pee Wee Russell.....
