Marty said in an interview i read (can't remember where) that this new album is the spiritual successor to Scenes. It has that sound, instrumentation, etc... wich is awesome, because it's my all time favorite album from MF. My mom likes country and pop, and she requests I play Scenes when I'm taking care of her. It's a relaxing album. Beautifully done.

I'm not sure if Marty listened to much Beck, although they have some similar approaches to melody. I do know that Jason Becker was a huge Jeff Beck fan and it shaped his approach to melody while Marty influenced him and vice versa - so there might be some overlap. Either way, it's awesome to hear new Marty stuff, especially like this. No one else plays or sounds like him whatsoever.
