This woman why I started listening to country. I heard her back in 2000 when I was 12 years old and fell in love with her voice! And I’m a black girl from the hood, but didn’t care! I still and will always love her.

I've been listing to music 50 s 60s 70 and some of the the magnificent vocals came from that Era but along comes Martina Mcbride with her powerful dynamic voice and blows just about all of them away. And the writer of independent day penned equaly as powerful a song. independence day for mankind was not 4th of july (however great) but when the stone was rolled away from Christ's tomb everyone seen he had risen now that is independence day

You are right, but this was 2 weeks after 9/11 and everything (rightfully) was patriotic then. Kind of wish it still was.

This song makes me think about when I was a kid in 2001. The day after 9/11 a bridge contractor near me put an American flag on the crane. We were driving by and we saw all the guys with their hard hats in their hands while the crane was going up with the flag on the top.

Rarely ever mentioned, the sound engineer, the recording for this live performance is top notch, obviously, Martina goes without saying!!

Amazing powerful voice !! And goodness . . . Those eyes !!!

Her 2001 Live Aid performance may be Martina McBride's best live performance ever.

I remember watching this as a teenager, I was blown away. I still think about it from time to time and have to watch it again.

Love the attitude her stage presence projects...she owns that stage and knows it.

Martina makes the hair on my arms stand up. Wow what a powerful voice.

After leaving an abusive relationship with a Narcissists and I was with him for 13 years I got tired of the choking, the hitting the gaslighting and left him this year in January. I'm so happy but I still carry emotional scars with me

I went to her concert and was the absolute best performance I have ever seen. That little lady can sing!

The Band Perry are also great. Country really rocks for me, love it. I am a Gloria Estefan, fan have been for years. But, Martina's voice is awesome, so powerful and so good looking. Yvonne my wife is a Kid Rock fan, not bad for a pensioner. Byronof calgary are you from or do you live in Calgary. We where going to emigrate to Lethbridge, Alberta.

Such a powerful song! Martina gets all the credit but surely Gretchen Peters deserves a lot too for writing it. Always reminds me of an infamous case here in Nova Scotia of an abused woman who killed her husband. An RCMP officer reportedly said something like " she saved us the trouble."

I’m from Nova Scotia as well. My father was emotionally abusive . Sometimes physical. Oddly enough he had a copy of Life With Billy on his nightstand. This song hits home. I remember watching the movie on CBC as a kid. We had 3 channels. Treat your kids well people. You only get one shot at it.

What do you hear ? The song is about domestic abuse..have you ever listened to the actual words ? The mother can't take the drunken beatings of an alcoholic husband any more, so she sets the house on fire and both die and the 8 year old child is sent to the 'County Home'

Why are u ppl so rude to each other and I assume everyone else when u have a point to prove ur right and there wrong. I agree the song is not about veterans .And is for all the men and women of domestic abuse . I'm not going to assume u talk to your partners like u do here to show how right u are. U both should back up and apologise and start over. There is nothing worse then trying to make yourself look good by trying to make someone else look bad Just like it's not a big deal to be wrong . Feel pride in being able to teach someone something and when u are wrong it's ok because u learn something. So think about it's not what u say to someone but how u say it. It's impossible to know everything and life is about teaching and learning . Without this it's only death. Just my thoughts on the rudeness that's uncalled for I see here everyday

This was a crazy time to be alive, right after 9/11 the entire nation came together it was very empowering. This was less than 2 weeks after the attack. It was wild, everyone was pissed and extremely patriotic
