Martin is a great example of show that helped Black Americans solved problems in America. This iconic show had great representation of friendships, relationships, job opportunities, personal growth, and life lessons for Black people.

The fact that ppl in their mid 30s emotionally involved in social media behavior says a lot about who we were growing into- the kids that actually grew up on shows like Martin.. It’s strange to me seeing how seriously adults over 20 take online interactions vs personal ones .... these are the same kids that still had rotary phones and toys made out of cardboard ... what is the main objective here steering ppl all over the place

I watched the Martin Lawrence Show back when I was in High School and I truly loved the Martin/Gina relationship. She was humble enough to let her man lead but strong enough to stand her ground when she truly believed she was right, not only for herself but them as a couple. Truly one of the most "perfect" couples in television history.

That was an unexpected and great breakdown of Blk culture (proverbially) using "Martin" as the example. The only disagreement I'd have is the over-simplistic view on "rising above ra ci sm" because yes, it matters less when the lights go out but longevity can't be realized unless 1) ppl are on the same page 2) have each others back when the real world comes against you and 3) understanding the others social currency in society based upon those differences. That's reality and if you can't navigate that successfully, it won't work.

It’s more proof that 2 people can enjoy a good and satisfying relationship.

Something I noticed as well, they had individual friendships with men and women. They validated each other and were secure in their position with each other. They were FRIENDS. They actually SHARED friends who had their best interest at heart. Their communication also improved. Martin wasn't angry and controlling all the time. Gonna made her own money but knew to allow Martin to lead.

No, martin was showing thats what black people were and are doing. If you want to go about it the "right way", children should be raised in a similar environment and groomed, therefore making it easier for a good man to be with a good woman. They grow and got to school together, so the families already know about the two and how they were raised. THEN get married. Not date or have sex first then ruin yourself for companionship.
