Martin Taylor 'I Got Rhythm' | Live Studio Session
Музыка
Over the past several years, solo jazz guitarist Martin Taylor, has basically become one of the gang here at KNKX. He's such good company and such a brilliant guitarist that we invite him into our studios for a session almost every time he comes to town.

I'm one of Martins online students. He is a wonderful and gracious individual as well as an absolutely superb artist. He has no equal.
The guitar is not made for playing like this. A normal human being can't do this. Only an exceptional master.
Damn, leave some for the rest of us!🤯🤯🤯
What he says about Art Tatum is the same thing I say about him; every time I hear him I laugh because of the absurd of his mastery on the guitar
Having read some of these comments, it’s important to understand this piece in context. This is a showpiece It’s a showpiece…he’s showing off his walking bass chops whilst playing/improvising over the top…at breakneck speed He’s not going for maximum musical content, just fireworks 💥 I’ve seen Martin live and believe me, he can swing with the best of them!
Unbelievable that anyone could give a 'thumbs down' to such a performance! MT is a master of the art and craft of guitar
Love his playing. Loooove his guitar !
This man is an absolute genius, the Yoda of Guitar!
Absolutely breathtaking! No words....
An outrageously good and musical guitarist, and a really nice down to earth guy. I've only seen him live once, but it was one of the best jazz gigs I have ever had the pleasure to attend. Hope he comes to Norway in the not too distant future. Then again, if he has a gig in Glasgow, Scotland I will need to hop over and see him with my father, for sure!
such a beautiful guitar
7yrs ago! I remember seeing him live in NZ
different world !! genius
Just Great. Martin is one of a kind
Martin one of the best jazz guitarist in the world saw him with Tony emmanuel what a show that was both joking and having fun together playing was amazing
I feel grateful for all these saturday nights (ok these mon, tues, wed, etc.) spent rehearsing at home so I can enjoy these 5 minutes. The sad thing is that my brain likes Martin Taylor, but my heart loves Bill Frisell. You know what I mean...
After seeing this I think Martin is the world's best guitarist! Wow!
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!
Great Master!!!
MAESTRO!!!!!! great Playing.....
Loved the guitar
This is the best thing i have heard in my hole life :D
BRAVO!!
Lovely Martin...truely one of the greats, .......so many wonderful guitarists sound like each other, ....like Django, and Wes, Martin just sounds like himself. great.......Ade H.

Martin that's outstanding :)
As a pianist myself I've always thought his playing is related to solo piano in approach, and here he confirms it. I guess this is why I like it so much. Must take a genius though to do this.

Obviously he couldn't play that straight off. A hell of a lot of thought and work went into working out the melody and bass lines. He'll have picked up the "tools" over the years, to allow him the facility to do it. He'd have started off playing it slowly, and then it's hard practice to perfect it and up to speed.
Days will be sunny..............................
ขอบคุณเดอะทอย ที่ทำให้ผมมาฟังคุณ
God!
The only thing more beautiful than his playing is that guitar.
Unbelievable
Well might he smile at the end of that. Frightening ability and a nice man too - just not fair.

If you are musicalley inclined, you don't want to miss this turn.

I don't think so, I got a new Peerless Martin Taylor Maestro a few years ago and assuming they strung it with what he uses, I believe they were D'Addario XL .011-.050 nickel/steel round wounds. At least that's what I replaced them with & it felt the same. I want to try some more beef on the bottom, there are Slinkies .011-.054 I have that I want to try on it next. Great sounding & playing ax, needed nothing out of the box.
Question guys, what do you specifically call this type of playing? I only know it's Jazz. Thanks in advance.
@manualvarado2212

It's quite unique i guess, because of the approach he talks about at the beginning of the video. But you could find some of this in Pat Methenty's solo performances with accoustic guitar. Look for Pat Metheny live in Zwitzerland : D

@@manualvarado2212 Pat Metheny has praised Martin Taylor to the nth degree. Pat is an excellent composer and guitarist. He knows the guitar and a quality musician when he hears one.
He doesn't know how huge he is...those lines could came out only from genius mind..
For those of you who say it doesn't swing 1. why does it have to? Are you trying to dance to it. You should use a big band or combo or something this is virtuoso guitar playing. 2. He used to be Stephan Grappelli's guitarist the guy who along with Django invented swing.

Who are the 31 subhumans who gave this a Thumbs Down?
Couldn't hear much swing here - perhaps due to the attempted speed. But heard him in an earlier clip playing Georgia - slowly - and it did swing and was wonderful.

+fingerhorn4 this particular performance may not be a swinger, but don't fall into the trap of judging a musician based on 1 performance. Especially one as technically bonkers as this. He's one of the greats, no doubt about it, and perfectly ably to swing.
