Mental imagery, says physician Martin Rossman, can provide a valuable adjunct to traditional medicine. On one hand, imagery offers an opportunity for patients to discover the emotional stories behind their symptoms. Actively, imagery can be used to mobilize the body's healing resources to alleviate symptoms. Imagery can be used to dialogue with one's symptoms and to interact with an "inner advisor" who can provide personal health guidance.
Dr. Rossman emphasizes the importance of the patient taking an active role in the healing process, rather than being passive recipient of scientific medicine. He demonstrates how you can use mental imagery to relax your body and guides you in a meditation to contact your own "inner advisor." (A program in two parts)
Martin Rossman, M.D., is founder and director of the Center for Collaborative Medicine in Mill Valley, California. He is Clinical Associate at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco and a scientific advisor to the Institute for the Advancement of Health in New York City. He is the author of Healing Yourself.

Dr. Rossman had a serious passion at a very young age. What a great Doctor he became. You can see it is him at any age. I do admire that he has no lines on his forehead like other gentlemen do, from talking. Dr. Rossman knew how to control the face muscles, Kudos to him. His voice is exactly the same. I am greateful to listen and learn from him. He is a God given gift to so many. More people should follow and listen to Dr.Rossman. What he teaches, it does work.🙏👍🌹
Excellent discussion. Very applicable to today's world.
Rossman's lecture "How to turn anxiety to calm" is on of the best things I have ever heard on the subject. He is incredible.
Can you cite the article references here by Franz J. Ingelfinger? Thanks.
Franz J. Ingelfinger lived only to 70, so Rossman errors here in saying he lived to 85 or 88 years old.

You are correct, and he was only the NEJM Editor for 10 years. He was an imposing man and seemed like he'd been the NEJM Editor forever when I was a young doctor. My apologies.
