Oh wow! This was so interesting ! I came to Paris 1989 and ended up going to University there, funnily enough Margiela bought the apartment which I almost traded to from My Stockholm appartment at the time. So I saw this interview from his home and recognized it . I was charmed by it.

Margiela is a creative force!!

Interesting. I started refashioning vintage clothing in the late sixties . I would purchase both men’s and women’s suits from vintage stores and redesign them. I even made my prom dress from a vintage dress and two men’s suits, in 1970. It was the talk of the event.

Thank you Doris for creating a living fashion encyclopedia. I respect your knowledge and appreciate the detail and care you take in creating these videos.

this vid was amazing. margiela was such a brilliant designer. the worst part tho is that it’s so hard to learn abt him and many of the collections. this vid taught a lot tho wow. i hope u make more videos on designers even if u don’t have a huge collection of their stuff cause this was so informative. ty!

sum12sumwhere Hi there. So sorry but I am sure you are aware of how difficult it is to find pieces larger than a contemporary size 10. It is literally the first thing to sell when I do. I am unaware of any designers from the past that specialized in this area. Any suggestions? Thanks for your interest! Doris

I don’t believe there is much from the past. 95% of what I find is matronly and undesirable and not from one designer. Mostly from the 1940s and 50s. Sorry to disappoint you. Doris

I love anything lanvin and that jacket is wow! If it was snug on the mannequin, that probably belonged to HER! =]

That Lanvin jacket in the Show Off is utterly incredible. The structured sleeves, the quality of the silk and intricacy of the Lesage embroideries - so chic and timeless! Have you thought about doing a video on Jeanne Lanvin? Or maybe a double video on Jeanne Lanvin and Lanvin by Alber Elbaz? JL’s sumptuous fabrics and ladylike couture and AE’s dark glamour and romanticism would make for a fantastic video subject! Love your videos, Doris! Edit: Oh my god I just saw the “Wallis” tag. Could this really have been owned by Wallis Simpson? That would be a find of a lifetime! She certainly was a couture client throughout her life and was known to wear Lanvin images.app.goo.gl/dR2QkWUehHRZ3xp36 - so who knows?!

I recently bought a 1920s gown with a beaded bottom and silk lining that's ripping, it also has weights should I store it flat or hanging?

thatoneawkwardturtle FLAT! If you hang it, the weight will cause stress on the shoulders and it could shred. Store either in acid free tissue paper or an unbleached 100% cotton sheet.

Markel Payne There is a documentary on him coming out this year I hope called “Martin Margiela- In His Words”. Hopefully that will shed a little light on that question.

🤔 Sometimes I think there are designers that secretly say to themselves 😏 "I bet I can get these rich people to wear half-finished tailored clothes out in public as if it's the newest fashion, and charge them twice what a complete piece would cost!" 😂

She Who Knows All Hi there. I think you may be missing the point of Margiela. While he was designing for his eponymous collection- he took familiar ways of dressing and “twisted” it. Sometimes with humor and something’s making a different kind of statement. The process of creating a collection and the overhead attached to doing that is really high. Ot sure how they determine what to sell it for but I wanted to add that to the discussion. Thanks for watching. Happy holidays! Doris
