Martin Luther's "Here I Stand"

Martin Luther's - Here I stand
The Speech that launched the Protestant Reformation
In the late afternoon of April 18, 1521, in the city of Worms, Germany, Martin Luther, a 37 year-old Catholic monk appeared before Charles the Fifth, the Holy Roman Emperor at the imperial assembly. Luther was called to answer certain charges and to make public confession to the 'errors' found within the multitude of books he had written. The speech he delivered that day, Here I Stand, marked the beginning of the Reformation, a critical turning point in Christian history, that decisively altered the spiritual map of the world.
In this recording of one of the most consequential speeches ever given, Max McLean introduces the events leading up to the Diet of Worms; Martin Luther's prayer the night before he delivered his speech; Luther's stirring defense; Eck's rebuttal; and, Luther's
final heartfelt response.

A million thanks for posting this story of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation. "My conscience is captive to the word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right, nor safe. Here I stand - I can do no other. God help me, Amen." Martin Luther.

This is superb, it captured my mind, my spirit when I first read of it 40 years ago. I grew up Roman Catholic. But by the grace of almighty God, I am now a Protestant, a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ.

And but I have to tell you you have fallen for a five hundred year old myth. And the myth is a man-made tradition called the Bible alone. That tradition was started by Martin Luther during the Protestant "Reformation of the 1500’s”. Let me assure you that. Tradition which is now doctrine of protestant thinkers everywhere is a man-made tradition and was not taught by Christ. One of the biggest problems that came from this Doctrine is that bible-believing Christians are teaching the Catholic catechism. But I just need to tell you that listening to a Bible Christian teach you how about the Catholic Church is like having a barber do your plumbing at your house he's going to get it wrong. But that is not going against Christ being the only way to the father. I can give you an example. Christ told his apostles: receive the Holy Spirit The Sins you forgive will be forgiven then the sins you retain will be retained. With that you can see that Jesus Christ himself gave his power to forgive sin to his apostles. Then a Bible Christian will tell you you should not confess your sins to a man. According to the Holy Bible men who are Divine like Christ have the power to forgive sin. This is a practice that is still around in the modern-day Catholic Church. Has any Bible Christian ever told you about that? I would suspect the answer is no because what they are doing is misleading you by reading verses of the Bible which conform to their beliefs. While leaving out verses from the Bible which support Catholic Practices. I implore you do not let them do this to you. They're putting out misinformation that perpetuates myth and leading dedicated Catholics away from the Catholic Church. Second they are doing nothing but causing division within Christianity.

We need more Preachers like Martin Luther who will stand against the false doctrines of today like for instance the "Prosperity Gospel" and "Once Saved, Always Saved". Most of today's preachers have Jell-O for a Backbone and are too cowardly to stand and Preach the Word of God like Martin Luther and all of those Old Time Preachers of the Past did because they are too afraid of "Offending" people and that their wallets will get skinnier. Thank GOD for those few Preachers that are out there that will still stand up and Preach the Word of God like it is supposed to be Preached.

@CALEB ALVAREZ Protestants are falsely calling themselves "christian" while JESUS! Founded the One, Holy, Catholic, & Apostollic church 15 centuries Before the Protestant revolt ever took place, whereas Protestantism began with Martin Luther in 1517 and exists only to attack and oppose the Catholic church. Protestantism is based on 2 false doctrines that were invented by Luther: "Scripture alone" & "Faith alone" which I will now use the protestant version of the Bible to prove them false: And although Protestants make a "squatter's claim" on the name "christian" Protestantism comes from MEN. -The Bible ITSELF Contradicts Luther's doctrine of "scripture alone" (solascriptura) The Bible tells us that the authority is THE CHURCH: ... • 1 TIMOTHY 3:15 The pillar & foundation of TRUTH is the CHURCH. • EPHESIANS 3:10 10 His intent was that now, THROUGH THE CHURCH, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, • 2 THESS 2:15 We are to hold fast to the TRADITIONS we have been given, either by WORD OF MOUTH or by the letter. • 1 Cor 11:2 I commend you because you remember me in everything, and maintain the TRADITIONS even as I have delivered them to you. • JOHN 21:25 Jesus said & did Many other things that are too numerous to be recorded in writing. • HEB 13:17 Obey the elders in the CHURCH!

I grew up in the Catholic faith and was not given the full story of Martin Luther, but only half truth; that he rebelled against the Church for making up his own beliefs. Truth is he was following scripture, God's words. He actually exposed alot of corruption in the Catholic church and was excommunicated by them. He had no desire to leave the Church, but spoke out the errs of doctrine and Church traditions which I can empathize with.

The other half truth though were true and if Luther was alive today he would have hugely dissatisfied with most Protestants as most have taken it farther..in fact by the time he died the original reformation was reforming again and has continued since there is several thousand sects. Btw - he wanted to remove several books from the bible to fit his beliefs so although there is half truths or rather more what you need to know - which he was a heretic - it was still truth. Exposing inside info is always going to be as this even has been a continuation of ALL religions..he was a nut as well smart ass hell but he was not going to outsmart 1.5k years of Catholicism and early Church Fathers

@Asaph Vapor well that depends. Protestants truly are worse just that because there are thousands of different sects its not as easy .in other words it's easy to throw a dart to one wall than it is to throw it to thousands of them..at the end BOTH have plenty of corruption. Ut that is exactly what St Paul says in the bible that would happen.

@Asaph Vapor well you mention biblical..you do realize that the bible you have today that you consider holy was canonized by the Catholic Church. It's not like Jesus or Peter or even the first Apostles left an infallible table of contents.

Amazing! Martin stood up for his beliefs knowing the consequences. He knew going against the Catholic church would make him public enemy #1. He did it anyway. May we all represent Yahweh with such fearlessness and strength. Stand firm and stand strong! "What is about to happen, I know not, nor do I care to know; Assured as I am that He who sits on the throne of heaven has, from all eternity, foreseen the beginning and the end of this affair. Let the blow light when it may, I am without fear. Not so much as a leaf falls, without the will of our Father. How much rather will He care for us! It is a light thing to die; for the Word which was made flesh hath himself died. If we pass with Him, we shall live with Him. Passing through that which He has passed through before us, we shall be where He is and dwell with Him forever." -Martin Luther-

Yes he became a hero even when he did a lot of mistakes what lead the killing of many farmers after in Germany. He could not be involved in politics after. The reformation was not enough to become back to the clean and plane Gospel.
