@@jakobgenovese1626 The clumsy US intervention (after France made it clear in the early 1960s that they were going to withdraw and no longer fight to defend their pro-capitalist puppet regime and tiny rich ruling class that had established itself there while Vietnam was a French colony) in the ongoing class based civil war / socialist revolution that was occurring in Vietnam can be explained by the US policy of “Containment”. The US so feared Communism and the the so-called “domino theory” of communist nations producing more communist nations like falling dominos the historian and amabassador George Kennan proposed the Containment theory in the late 1940s as a way of protecting US interests (which they always identified with open trade access to capitalists) anywhere in the world. So over the course of the next two decades Containment became the main foreign policy concept with respect to any kind of socialist activities in any foreign country. It needed to be fought and defeated if possible. If this was not possible the the influence of socialism needed to be contained as much as possible by any means necessary. This was always easier to do without generating too much sympathy in the US in Asia where the people being killed weren’t white Europeans… which is why the US tended to take a different, more clandestine approach to destroying socialism (even governments that had been democratically elected) in Central and South America, where many of the people involved wouldn’t look good being killed by US soldiers rifles in direct armed conflict unless they could be somehow tied to drug dealing or terrorism in some circuitous way. The entire project was a global goal to slow down the spread of egalitarianism, true democracy (not just democracy only for the ruling class wealthy and powerful), and socialism around the world. So that capitalist values that produce hierarchies of rich and powerful and loads of disempowered exploited working classes) could remain the dominant ideology around the world.

History books tend to distill the character of historical figures into single elements: all bad, all good, all anger, all peace, all saint, all sinner. We have reduced MLK into the essence of one speech, “I Have a Dream,” and as magnificent a piece of rhetoric as it was, that speech wasn’t ALL he was, said, wrote, or did.

Get a library card, read some high end literature, read well written newspaper and magazine articles. Go to a college with tough academic standards, and take the most challenging courses you can find. If you do all that, then you'll be able to express your thoughts as articulately as MLK. Turn off your TV set, put away your cell phone, and shut off your computer. Spend a few hours each day reading, without any of those distractions.

D3vilsheep 65 I bet you are a right-wing individual who thinks he knows more about King, his political framework, cultural traditions, and his people than the people themselves. Because actually, King would be proud, though not yet satisfied, of the strides made by black Americans. He would also insist now, as he did then, that the social structures in place today still need to be dealt with seriously, and sincerely. Something many white Americans were reluctant to do then, as they are now. Contrary to the egregious assertion you put forth, he would roll his eyes at people like you who rip words from his mouth and thoughts from his head in order to justify your own resentment for the very people he identified with. To use his language, you need to be true to what HE said on paper, which you clearly haven't read.

martin king jr was a PERVERT a THIEF a CHEAT On Jan. 31, 1977, Martin Luther King's FBI records were sealed by court order until the year 2027 because, as his wife said, "its release would destroy his reputation" These records contain instances of bizarre sexual perversion and homosexuality. Martin Luther King frequently enjoyed prostitutes and paid for them with his church's money that he stole. The Wall Street Journal (Nov.9, 1990) disclosed that Stanford University editors of “ The Papers of Martin Luther King Jr. “ have long known that King was guilty of plagiarism in his l955 Boston University doctoral thesis, having lifted significant portions from the works of other writers and graduate students. He wasn’t intelligent enough to do it on his own.

A leader who can actually gather the people and push towards a goal, or lead them to a destination. The people are divided which makes us that much easier to control. They tried to catch him slipping but he owned them. Gold

Wow, it's amazing how different this is to what we get on TV today. They actually let the guest talk and make good points. It's kinda nice.

Dr. King spoke the truth about the Vietnam War a good 8 years before the war criminals in Washington finally ended that war. He was a truly intelligent and moral man.

It's more than a little strange to watch someone who today literally has a national holiday walk onstage on a talk show, be greeted with middling, unremarkable applause, and then show exactly why he was able to accomplish the things that gave him a national holiday.
