Me too ! I pulled this up by accident. Magnificent voice !

This is a very difficult aria to sing in the first place...Especially the last vincerò, you have to nail that with beyond perferction. And this guy KILLED IT!!!!! One of the BEST I've ever seen an ameture do. Nessun Dorma is my number one Aria and not many can sing this. His singing made me cry, it moved me so much.

I can clearly say that is one of the best performances that I have ever heard. Why he is not noticed until now is beyond belief.

Pure talent... Glad he signed up for this competition and I got to see his performance 12 years (too) late. Thanks for sharing.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! Someone who says he can sing Nessun Dorma and actually has the voice-type and musicality to back it up. Wow. That's a real Nessun Dorma.

@@edwinmalachy It bothers me a lot more that his stentorian high-B had almost no vibrato whatsoever. Lack of a full, healthy vibrato very often gives the impression of notes being under pitch. My praise of this singer, in any case, was based more on his voice type and his musicality (both impressive) than it was on his technique (needs some work) or this particular performance. @@SuperDen1965 Why? He can't sing this aria passably. He is a pop tenor with a small, skinny, throaty voice--completely the wrong voice type for this piece. Well, I guess you're not really well-versed in opera, so you don't know the difference yet. But keep listening to more real tenors doing this piece and you will hear amazing things.

@@nanborg65 Paul Potts actually can sing this very well. You might want to listen to his pitch-perfect rendition of Puccini’s Nessun Dorma. Paul also made it as a tenor. He racked up 165 million views on youtube.

This can't be an "amateur." That 's a professional quality voice in every way.

💯 CORRECT! I strongly suspect He's been classically trained. That's perfect pitch and in Italian no less ! Deep dive will reveal he's a former student of Opera in Italy!!

This brought tears to my eyes. Humanity is full of surprises.

fast forward to 2021, he is now world famous and sings all over the world. China loves him. All the other countries love him too.

Out bloody standing.Martin is just pure pitch and tone perfection in EVERY song he has covered.Long may he carry on and bring us more of his amazing and brilliant talent :)

My eyes swelled with tears while he sang. Every fiber of my body was deeply moved. It was such a great performance. Bravooooo!!!!

Butterfly…I had the same reaction. Beautiful music does that to me. I don’t really know why…..

Every choir member comes across natural talents that go unrecognized. We had 2 'ringers' show up for Christmas rehearsal and we were rehearsing "Messiah." Before the evening rehearsal was finished we discovered there was a bass member who sang the tenor part as well! This exceptional discovery, Martin Hurkens, is so wonderful to emerge to acclaim so deserving. You can postpone your dream, raise a family, and re-emerge.

His tonality is totally outstanding!!!! Better than many I have heard !!

This the best version of Nessun Dorma on the tv show...his italian is PERFECT

+MrCheccobianconero secondo me: bene, intonato, potente. Ma la dizione è da rivedere. Gli anglosassoni devono assolutamente evitare di raddoppiare le erre quando cantano in Italiano. E' fastidioso. Per il resto, bravissimo ! IMHO :well tuned, powerful. But the term is to be reviewed. The Anglo-Saxons must absolutely avoid duplication of R letters when they sing in Italian. It 'annoying. For the rest, very good!

+Antonello D'Amico Nel cantato quando si fa pausa sulla "r" in una parola inevitabilmente la raddoppi. Cmq in un solo punto l'ha raddoppiata riascoltandolo in "...d'amore" senza che ci fosse la pausa però confermo che, da parte di un non italofono, è stato il più bravo in assoluto. D'altronde chi in Italia ha una dizione perfetta delle parole? Solo professionisti come attori, radiofonisti, giornalisti, cantanti etc.

Non è proprio così, chi studia canto Lirico studia perfettamente dizione, ed anche arte teatrale. In Italia i Conservatori di Musica sono strutturati per il "solismo", sia a livello lirico che strumentale. Mancano, viceversa, performance sulla musica di insieme.

non so onestamente cose tecniche riguardo la voce o la lirica. sentendo tante altre versioni di canzoni italiane orrendamente storpiate questa è decisamente una delle migliori perfomance

Wow! This is better done than what I’ve heard from a lot of big name Tenors! Being 48 myself, I must give this man all the respect in the world. Bravo!

When an otherwise "seemingly" ordinary man hit that perfect note at the height of this song it's not possible to NOT be touched in the heart - because we all want to experience ourselves somewhere, sometime in our lives as hitting our own unique high point!

Wow. This tenor is among the top 1% of amateurs. He is excellent.

Not a good choice of music done to death too many times - he's no better than Paul Potts - his technique is very rough and unpolished.

I've seen a lot of people sing Nessun Dorma on these talent shows, but this guy can REALLY sing it! All throughout his range, he had the fullness, the quality in his voice - nothing was lacking. Truly amazing!

You must not listen to much opera. He is good. There are many outstanding tenors who sing this song phenomenally.

Wonderful! He projects a level of emotion and human experience few other performances have. Brava!

Why wasn't he discovered 30 years ago? How can such a talent be kept hidden all that time? I suppose better late than never, but it's still such a pity we haven't been able to listen to him for the last 30 years - when he may just have been singing in the bathroom. But I wish those who come onto the show to sing opera would find something different.

gorgeous sound - and it sounds like he has actually studied voice - sometimes on these shows we hear a natural talent that needs refining - he has a very powerful and beautiful song.

Martin sings to everyone in the audience. No one else does that as well. The “pros” fixate . They deserve recordings. Martin captivates the whole audience. Experience his performances in Japan and China!!

This gentleman is natural , he is talented , not technically flawless but superbly amazing whatsoever ! You don't know how difficult it is to reach that high note at the end and sustain it for few seconds without allowing it to lose any intensity or lose the pitch until you try it ...No wonder why the judge at the right side was in shock .
