This Core Concept video focuses on Martin Heidegger's essay "Plato's Doctrine of Truth" (found in the book, Pathmarks), which discusses the Allegory of the Cave in Republic book 7. Here, Heidegger distinguishes between two basic conceptions of truth.
The more primary - and older - conception of truth is of aletheia or unhiddenness. The newer conception of truth - associated with Plato - makes truth a matter of orthotes, or correctness. This correctness has to do with correspondence between the ideas or forms - which allow individual things to be what they are - and human perception, cognition, or language.

Dr Sadler it would be amazing if somehow you gave us a sneak peak of what your day is like or how you manage your time. You are on fire and I would love to see your "tips" on time management/discipline. Many thanks.

Thanks a lot Greg, your content and your focus on particular philosophers is a light in this time where philosophy has become overladen with analytic bias. And you are also helping me with the essay I am struggling with where I try to understand the relationship between Plato's forms, logos and truth as aletheia. Heidegger seems to be the key but he is too hard to understand :(

I think that there is a parallel to be made between how truth unveil itself to us with heidegger, and how to signifier emerges in analysis. The unveiling of truth blurs the totalyty of being around it (if i'm correct) while the signifier alienates the real or something. I know there is a relation but i'm still working it out... hahahah
