Martin Frobisher: Explorer, Privateer and Pirate
Martin Frobisher was a British privateer who went on three explorations of the land that would eventually become Canada. He has a curious tie to Canadian Thanksgiving and his life is history that deserves to be remembered.

I’m currently doing an exchange year in Southampton, England and the house of my student accommodation I’m living in is named after Martin Frobisher. It’s an incredible coincidence that you made a video about him and I love it since I always wondered about the story behind that name. So Thank you for that!
Happy Thanksgiving Mr. and Mrs. History Guy!

Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you. I'm a Canadian fan, and I still chuckle over your, "A fireman and a clown walk into a brothel", episode. As a Native Torontotonian, it made me proud! Keep up the excellent work! Bravo, Sir.

I would have thought a denizen of Toronto would have been a Torontonian, but do love the extra syllable in there. After a previous mayor of yours got done with the city's reputation it might have been a TorontOHNO!nian, I'd think.

Here in Norfolk, on the East coast of Britain, we are also having a thanksgiving meal with our family. Best wishes to you, your wife and your family and thank you for teaching the joys of history as it was never taught that way in our schools
Prayers and blessings to you and your Mrs on this Thanksgiving!!! Thank you again for your great love of history that deserves to be remembered.
Amazing how many times in history the thin line between good guy and bad guy is crossed. Privateers as seen here. Sheriffs in the old west who were outlaws in other areas... Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.
that was a lovely touch to have Mrs History join at the end. i was thinking the same thing, he was not a very good spouse.
And a Happy Thanksgiving back to you folks! I am so thankful we live in a place where people such as yourselves can dig back into the deep, dark, unbelievable past.
Frobisher was the guy that reinstated the grammar school that I attended as a young adolescent in the 1970s: Normanton Grammar School. He was memorialised in the house system there with Frobisher house, although that house had disappeared by the time I got there (we had Levett, Freston, Ward and Dodsworth houses).

Our Barrack block at CFS Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, was named after Frobisher.
I thoroughly appreciate these tales from several centuries ago, mostly because the way you share your research makes it sound like these events have just occurred. You're taking something hundreds of years old, and making it fresh, exciting, entertaining, and most importantly, educational.
I am thankful for being able to watch this again. Thank you and your beautiful family for bringing this very interesting and well prepared and presented story.
Happy Thanksgivings to you and your beautiful wife~! Best and most anticipated videos on the internet.
And a hearty, happy Thanksgiving to the History Gal and her "better than Frobisher" spouse the History Guy.
And THAT'S why, to this day when you think of Thanksgiving, you think of Pirates !!

Good story. One of my elementary school history teachers told us that the motivations of the men of times past was "God, glory, and gold," usually pursued in reverse order.
I love how you mine nuggets of history everyone else has forgotten. Thanks.

It is always a pleasure to see both your smiling faces and hear the enthusiasm you have for the history that does need to be remembered. Thank you both. Your topics are diverse and amusing and open the mind to things we know not. At least not as deeply. Thank you again. I believe you're popular here, up north, because it seems there are many here that love history. Thanks for remembering Canada.
Thank you for what you do Mr and Mrs History

Happy Thanksgiving to you both as well. I'm thankful for your channel and the both of you, thank you.
Thank You! Happy Thankgiving!
H.G. and Mrs. H.G., Love this episode and like so many, the specific story is less of interest that the inspiration derived by the subject. In this comfortable21st Century, we live such lives of relative ease. I have friends who are nearly terrified of the thought of driving or moving 100 miles from their homes... and Frowbisher got in a ship that was kept from leaking by stuffing rope in the cracks and time and time again, sailed to the far ends of the earth to be with people with whom he had no means to easily communicate. Such lessons of courage and... a willingness to be uncomfortable for greater benefit, is the frequent lesson of the History Channel. Again, thank you for what you do and I am proudly a patron.
Great as always Thanks for sharing
Happy Thanksgiving!
Nice to see the lovely History Lady again!!

Happy Thanksgiving. Another fine episode. :)
Thanks giving is only celebrated in one place in Australia - Nolfoke Island. Though technically an independent protectorate, it was the base for so many US whalers that the Thanksgiving Day was adopted.
