I entirely agree with you. Wushu also has a spiritual aspect as well. It blends physicality with mentality quite well. A person can achieve both a fluidity of mind and body through training wushu. To me, the martial art embodies so much more and I am at my best when training.

Yes she is performing the movements and they appear dance-like. But don't underestimate her. Her speed and accuracy could assist her in a fight as well as her endurance. Wushu also has a fighting art known as Sanda which is more of a combat-oriented fighting style than modern wushu which focuses on function rather than form. I say this because I hate it when people think wushu is merely a dance, it is a martial art if treated in that way.

Sorry it is, it is devoid of all martial applications for the sake of making it aesthetically pleasing. If you mean wu shu as the general word for art of war which encompasses Chinese martial arts then you are correct. If you speak of what is on this video and what is taught in China and around the world for international competition then it is. If you can refute this claim, please send me link or explain.

Now I wouldn't force this on a child but I, for one, wish all children were put into martial arts. Sadly I only got a little karate in during second grade so I can't do too much of anything but a few punches and kicks up to waist level. MA is a great way to teach discipline and self defense especially nowadays with every predator carrying a weapon. Gotta have some kind of arsenal.

Watch out Steven Seagal, Tony Jaa, Jet Li, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Jason Stathman, Donnie Yen, Wu Jing, Dolph Lundgren, and Sammo Hung. She is only 27 years old!

No shu means "art", "wu" means "martial". So together, it would be like : "martial arts".

After reading some post I feel the need to comment again. First off. "Kung Fu" literally means -a skill achieved through a long period and hard work. "Wushu" Is the true meaning of what westerners have come to think what "Kung Fu" means. Second. Just because you marry into a culture does not mean you understand that culture fully.In fact I would say it is near impossible to know a culture fully with out firstly growing up in it. However, that doesn't mean you can't learn a great deal about it
