Marthas Vineyard | Summer Getaway For The Rich | UNBELIEVABLE Story Book Homes | Wizard Of Oz House
Martha's Vineyard is a popular summer destination for the famous and wealthy. I take the ferry to Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven which have some of the most beautiful homes in New England and we get to see them together here.
People come here for the privacy, the beaches, and the boating. Touring and dining also are popular attractions, according to Travel and Leisure.
I came because of recent news of Governor Ron DeSantis flying immigrants to the Vineyard and wondered if I see where they were. Come on in and see what I found.

Been going to the Vineyard since the mid sixties. If you want to plan a trip in the summer, book in January or February. Accommodations go fast! A car? Same. January or February. The Gingerbread cottages are so interesting. Large African American presence on the Island. August is our month with a lot to do. Many entertainment events are held at the Tabernacle. Juneteenth is a great weekend to be there. Inkwell Beach, the integrated beach. So much history on the Island. Definitely my happy place.

@@pagen5219 Well, id consider African Americans regular Americans. And just like other subcultures in the country, Jewish, Italian, Southerners, Natives, Filipino, Indian, and others, African Americans often have various commonalities and shared experiences that connect us as a group. There is no intention to exclude anyone or be secluded from anyone. It's just interesting when we discover our particular culture has a presence somewhere as cool as Martha's Vineyard.

While in college I spent a couple of summers on the island, one was the most fantastic times of my life. My grandfather lived in Oak Bluffs for 50 years when he passed away. When we went to visit, and he wanted to talk "grown-up" he would give us quarters and send us to the Flying Horses. Very fond memories. Thanks for this.

The Kennedy Compound is in Hyannis Port Massachusetts . Jackie O compound was in Martha Vineyard it was sold as conservation . They kept the house exactly the way it was when she passed. Carly Simon and James Taylor both have houses and Carly lives full time. I think it’s an extension of NYC . And celebrities don’t get bothered
From the uninvited Irishman : Wow you missed a lot man? What I mean is; nobody told you about those beautiful magical gingerbread cottages . Those buildings were once (temporary summer tents) back in the 1870s or so. The tents were set up on wooden platforms for the summer, and taken down for storage in the late fall. They were primarily if not exclusively occupied by wealthy black families of Massachusetts, and surrounding areas, mostly from Boston. They were (Methodists). They attended services at the tabernacle, and perhaps other nearby churches. They left the heat, and bustle of Boston area to vacation with fellow Methodists primarily. No doubt there was great peace and joy being together with other successful black friends. I don't mean that in a snobbish way just pure neighborly family joy so rare in America, in those days .There are incredible stories about these families worth reading about. These were amazingly intelligent, tough successful people at a time when racism was rampant even for the upper classes. Fortunately in places like Marthas Vineyard that sickening disgusting attitude barely exists today among the population. Certainly it's very exclusive today, very expensive. Not much we can do about that I guess? Thankfully they haven't privatized it all to keep us riffraff out. Talking about myself there. It would be nice if every American could know the glorious peace of summer in the Vineyard. I love travel like you, but one really should do jut a little research so they don't miss incredible stories like this. I'm deeply proud I was born in Massachusetts, and grew up there till 17 when I joined the Air Force. Been all over the world since then 1972. There are very few metaphorically sacred places on earth as precious, and peaceful as Marthas Vineyard. Believe me ;they're are a million incredible stories of that beautiful island. Thanks for sharing the walks with us.

Wow, thanks so much for all that information. I definitely did not know all of that. You're right, It would have been better for me to research and know all of that before I went and to share it with my viewers. That history is barely known outside of New England. In the media we often hear about celebrities visiting and how expensive it can be to live there. I showed up on a whim out of curiosity and decided to do a little exploring and recording. I'm grateful that you share all of that cool and interesting info for me and other subscribers to read and know! Thanks for dropping in!

We are kindred spirits you and I. Traveling is really like a (drug ) for me. When I'm traveling it's like reading a cosmic picture book. To think we exist on this ball of rock in the cosmos of nearly endless space is beyond our comprehension. Traveling reminds me we don't need to launch a rocket to go into space we are already there man. I wish I could afford a house near the harbor, or the beach at (the Vineyard)? I would have invited you in to have coffee, tea, a doobie, or some gummy bears. Just to shoot the shit with you and other passers by. Maybe Obama will invite us down for the summer? Maybe David Letterman will share a room in his $26,000,000 dollar mansion. Probably not huh? Such a joy to see you sitting in someone else's rocking chair saying welcome to Marthas Vineyard. Have a great time on your travels. Peace and joy to you from the unsolicited Irishman. Maybe I'll run into you some day to share some stories. Thanks

Do not be fooled by the politeness of the community in Martha's Vineyard. They are thinking what are you doing there just walking carelessly as a black in their safe community. That is the mistake blacks ofen make. Those people do not want you their so why do you make it a mission to always try to assimilate where you're not wanted or belong. White flight is real.
Great video, we had our honeymoon there 35 yrs. ago this weekend! Fun fact: "Jaws" was filmed here in the 1970's and since the movie the tourism exploded! Thank you for sharing your trip with us! I definitely need to make my way there. It kind of reminds me of Fire Island here on Long Island. I think it’s a good omen the monarch butterfly that flew past you ♥️

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I was thinking about visiting Long island to visit Sag Harbor. I didnt realize this when I visited, but Martha's Vineyard was one of the few places Black people could vacation during segregation. Other viewers are telling me Sag Harbor was another place like that. I just looked up Fire island and it looks cool and gives me more to do if I do visit. Thanks so much for mentioning that. I was thinking the same about the butterfly. At least I hoped! 😊 Thanks for stopping by! 💙💙💙

@@novelworldtravels I’ve actually never been to Sag Harbor or Montauk! Yes, I learned that about Martha’s Vineyard fairly recently myself too. Can’t wait to see your videos when you venture out into the island!
You’re funny. Thanks for the tour.

Thanks so much for doing this! I always wanted to see what Martha’s Vineyard was like. I’ve been to MA several times (have relatives in Boston) but have never been to the places I’ve always wanted to see like MV, The Cape, and Nantucket.

You're welcome! I went for the same reason. Just wanted to explore and see what was there. So glad I could share it with you! I really want to visit Nantucket. Maybe later this year!

Me too. I have to go o and stay longer. I just had a quick peek and I was so impressed. Being there when it's warm would be awesome!
Love the Vineyard, we are going there this summer for Fourth of July. I can’t wait. I’ve been going there for a long time.

MV looks rather boring to me! But I think it’s worth a day trip up there….the architecture really is lovely…thanks for a great video! 👍❤️

Yeah, I can see why it might appear boring. I showed only a small portion of the island and I think some people go there for the slow pace. But you are right when you day it might be worth a day trip just to experience it a little first hand. I'm happy you liked the video! Thanks
James Taylor lives here and does most of his recording at his home studio. Reminds me of Mackinac Island in Michigan.

It reminds me a little of Mackinac island too. I have a video there. It's a smaller place and doesn't allow cars though. Martha's Vineyard is full of cars. I didn't know James Taylor lives and records there. Thanks for sharing!
I love your fresh eyes on the island...she is lovely but difficult to live on without ancestral ties or money to buy there...as a person who worked there (I was a professional), I was not able to stay year-round on the island due to the excessive summer/seasonal rental amounts...so my husband and I moved on and off and back on island for two years...it nearly killed me. I ADORE Martha and her lands but only the very affluent can afford her beauty. Makes me so very sad. I see you falling in love with her charm as well. She is SO BEAUTIFUL.

Sorry you had to move away. Generational Islanders and locals like myself are still making a go of it, even with ancestral ties it is tough going.
Good stuff!
