I am so sorry he passed at such a young age. He was bursting with God given talent. I love his music and respect him for his service to our country. May he rest in peace. Playing his guitar in the afterlife to his satisfaction! If I am good, my paradise will be listening to your uncle, for ever and ever ad infinitum!

Toy and George and all the rest are South Carolina's gift to music and the world! Thank you from a North Carolinian, who lived around the corner from the MTB bus driver, who sometimes had that bus in our neighborhood, I saw it lots back in the 70s. They're not "Southern Rock", they're really a bit different than anything, jazzy, rockin' and not confined to a genre. These guys, Skynyrd, The Outlaws and others were the real deal and they were just as important as the Zeps, Who, Stones etc. It's ok to have more than one favorite and that's a win-win for all music lovers!

This is the best Marshall Tucker jam on KZread and one of the best I've ever seen and heard. Too bad there are not more gems like this available here. Toy's picking is as sweet and deeply felt as it gets; the rhythm is wonderful; the way Tommy grooves on and maybe motivates Toy is fascinating. Every player, superb. The unit, phenomenal. How lucky those of us are who got to see them in the 70s.

Came across MTB by chance two years ago, looking for some music to console me on the death of my brother. I found their song “If I Could See You One More Time”, and I’m hooked ever since. I’m from the UK, and had never heard of them, so it’s great to see this recorded by the BBC. Such tremendous talent. I wish I could have seen them in the 70s, although I’d only have been very young!

Damn that cowboy can jam, Toy was one of the best and one of my all time favorites. I had a chance to see them in '78 when I was 13 with my big sister and her husband but something accrued that stopped us from going though. I think it was that my brother-in-law started drinking before we left the house and he became an instant asshole like most people do that have issues. So because of that jerk we did not go to the concert, I missed one of the most talented live performances in history. Unfortunately I did not get the chance to see Toy perform before he passed, and that's really to bad.

Lost a old friend from my days in elementary school & I'm 66 now to Alcoholism , best of friends always & he began drinking when we were in our teens & it just spiraled out of control . Yes they as drunks are Fu- ked up when drunk & never think about what they do to others . It's always a bad thing & sadly it always seems to end at the cemetery & if they are lucky it's only them getting buried but way to many times they take another's life with them that had been in the wrong place at the wrong time & it's a sad & terrible thing . Sorry he made you miss such a great band & as all alcoholics they can't process what they are doing to themselves let alone everyone else . I was lucky to have grow up in the 60s & early 70s so i had many great times seeing the band in full swing & you're damn right Toy was one cowboy that could swing & pick like the Devil only much better than him . We miss them all including friends lost . I'm an ex Kart racer so i agree with your icon name , nothing like the smell of Race Fuel burning in the morning !!!

Toy understood the tone of the strings. He knew the sound the sting would make when he placed his fingers on them. Its the length of the string where he placed his fingers that told him the melody he was to play. He knew that to play music he must allow music to teach him what music is. Because music in itself wanted Caldwell to tell people what it truly is, in its purity, unadulterated by anyone's opinion. HE HEARD THE MUSIC THAT HIS HEART WANTED TO TELL ALL THOSE WHO WERE WILLING TO HERE.

This was my unforgettable experience at the New Haven Coliseum on July 14, 1979: A friend and I, who'd earlier in the day gone to the SunFest at Yale Bowl to see The Beach Boys, walked into the Coliseum in the late afternoon through the backstage/loading dock entrance and hid separately until ticket-holders started coming in. We had at least two hours to kill. At one point, I took a stroll. A Hell's Angels "security" goon saw me, got pissed off, and escorted me out. I was walking in front of that scary guy. At one point, just before we reached the exit, he hauled off and slugged me in the back of the head. It was vile and really hurt. I went straight to the Sheraton Park Plaza Hotel where the bands stayed and asked at the front desk for Marshall Tucker's manager. I was given a room number and told I could go up to see him. His name was Joe McConnell. I told him my story. He was so empathetic and angry. He told me "I'll take care of you. Let's go back there. I want you to show me the guy who attacked you." We went back shortly before Orleans ("Dance with Me" and "Still the One") came on stage to open. I found the gang member and pointed at him. He saw me do it. The manager then found the head thug of the Hell's Angels and demanded that the goon be kicked out of the venue. That was done. Then the manager gave me a great floor-seat ticket and a backstage pass. One of the worst things that ever happened to me turned out to the most moving experiences I've ever had in achieving justice.
