Fenders and Marshalls evolved quite differently. This is also because Leo Fender and Jim Marshall had very different views of how a guitar's electronics interacted with an amp. Leo thought more in terms of single coils, while Jim paid more attention to brightening up humbuckers, which tend to, by nature, be darker than single coils. Of course, there are very bright humbuckers and darker single coils today as there is more variety due to the aftermarket pickup industry. But in the old days it was a different story. I find there are more Fender amps that sound just as home with buckers pumping through them as single coils, while Marshalls were never designed to be at optimum with single coils. Of course there are plenty of great strat and tele plays who've used Marshalls and still do like Eric Johnson, Yngwie, Ritchie Blackmore, etc. My next amp will be a Fender Supersonic 22 because I love the sort of warm, spongy tube distortion they produce, and also a more dynamic clean channel than what I have on my Marshall. I regularly switch back and forth from clean to dirty, often clean funky jazz chords, then overdrive to boost the leads. At times the Marshall can be just a bit too brittle, and I can't dial that out. It's good to have variety.

Supersonics are amazing amps, if you put the right EQ in front of them they can even get a great Mesa tone to them.

I have a DSL 20. Love it. But for strats with single coils I always preferred Fender amps. I like how 6L6 tubes interact with single coils.

Gain on the two channels on 12 o clock, channel volumes 1 o clock, mid full, treble 9/10 o clock, bass 12 o clock resonance/ presence 12 o clock, reverb on 2/3, master volume only on 9 oclock.
