Mars Habitat in a Lightbox - Prototype #35 - The Making of "Zubrin Base"
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This Mars settlement is a combination of exterior inflatable structures attached to an extensive underground community. This would be one of many entrances to the complex.
The scene includes a greenhouse, airlocks, surface vehicle, and a view into an underground atrium.
I used an unfinished display case from a craft store and a battery pack LED string wound through the model for all the lighting. I use off the shelf components wherever reasonable to cut cost and time.
The structural components of the Mars Settlement are designed in 3ds Max and 3d Printed.
The landscape is a combination of XPF, Sculptamold, bark, and sand.
The greenhouse dome is vacuum formed over a 3d printed model.
I'll show the design, printing, vacuum forming process in another video.
The model was named after the inspirational Dr. Robert Zubrin and given to him on behalf of the Mars Society.
I first sketched the idea of this scene almost 3 years ago with the intention to make it one of my Prototypes.
This is how I built it.

Great showcase. Any chance you sell or share the STLs?
Stunning work! There are 2 or 3 stories it already inspires in me! I love it! Are you going to be at Edmonton Expo this year?

Unfortunately, I won't be. I've stopped doing the shows for now. They take a lot out of me although I did enjoy the interactions.
wao amazing work ! Thanks for sharing !
Wow! Fantastic, thanks!
WOW that is amazing well done to you, a superb job. If i might make a suggestion, paint the battery box the same as the rocks and it will completely disappear, other than that I love this.

absolutely, I actually did that after I recorded the footage but just before I shipped the piece. I don't think I have an image of the final battery box.
Magnifique bravo 👏. Vous avez fabriqué en combien de temps?

I spent a year thinking about it, then built it in about a month.
What are the clips you used to hold the lights?

I designed and 3d printed those so that I could slip the light string in and out to replace them if need be. They probably won't be replaced so I could have just hot glued the string straight onto the frame.
When will the 3d files be released?
