MARS ATTACKS EXPLORED - The Alien Physiology and Anatomy | How the Martians Influenced Humanity

Фильм және анимация

This is so dumb that I had to format the video this way. Welcome to the absolute state of this site lol The Red planet is often seen as Humanities salvation concerning becoming multiplanetary. All it would take on Earth is for a large enough meteor to impact the planet to make it virtually uninhabitable for a long time, which would obviously set humanity back centuries in terms of technology. So Mars is viewed as a way to hedge our bets by giving us two planets in order to survive such a catastrophe. In todays episode, Mars is not the savior but aggressor, well not the planet but the Martians that live there. In todays episode, we will talk about the physiology and anatomy of the Martians from Mars Attacks which will lend some clues as to our own evolution!

    My theory on why they’re quite aggressive against birds, is that some type of flying animal was the apex on Mars. And that the martians share the same spot on the food pyramid as us. Being considered apex predators, but still able to be taken down by other life forms

    I think humans didn't become a true apex species until we developed sufficient technology to defend ourselves. After all, as high on the food chain as chimps and other primates are, they're still targeted by a lot of predators, instead of just a few predators competing for the same niche.

    Another Martian preferentially killed a bird while in the middle of stalking a human, so this suggests specific aversion and not just opportunism or startlement in the first instance with the dove. You don't show something twice on the screen without a purpose. Going by what Roanoke said about Mars's habitable period, the relatively lower gravity might have allowed for BIG flying species.

    Well, people have been wrong about the intelligence of animals, I'm asking why don't certain animals think they're "apex predators".. I always figured a realistic invasion would be done with robot soldiers and not living soldiers. If a race has the technological prowess to traverse space for conquest, they’d probably have tech to build an automated army to lessen casualties. That and chemical/biological warfare. An alien invasion would almost never be boots on the ground

    I'd always assumed Mars Attacks (a favourite film of mine) was deliberately schlocky with no thought put into it, like the pulp science fiction it lovingly skewered, but this analysis makes me wonder if anyone on the production genuinely intended some of this. When you started bringing up how the Martians may have banged very early humans, I immediately thought of Destroy All Humans and the Furons. The game already taking tons of inspiration from Mars Attacks, but if that idea is true than they also took the idea of 'aliens banging ancient humans and modern humans having the genes of aliens in their DNA.' And it's even more ironic because in the game's lore, Furons went to war with the Martians, and their weaponry is what turned the one water-covered planet into a wasteland. So really what I'm saying is you should do a video about the Furons and/or Blisk of Destroy All Humans, especially since a remake of the second game is happening.

    My dad worked on this movie. He worked on some of the miniature sets like the Caesar Hotel and Big Ben. For the Caesar Hotel they built a 40ft miniature wall in the parking lot of Warner digital for the close up of a ship crashing into it. The ship was the size of a small car and filled with explosives. In the middle of the night they dropped this thing into the miniature building and it Blows up, blowing out windows and setting off car alarms, it wasn't supposed to explode with that much force. The entire 40 ft structure is now on fire and burning out all the equipment. My pops is glad that at least the lighting effect he built worked for the shot and when he turns to talk to the pyrotechnics guy he's getting into his truck and drives away. Unbeknownst to my dad and the rest of the crew the pyrotechnician didn't get a permit or let anyone in the area know what he was doing. So for a residential area in the middle of the night, a bomb just went off with no warning. The crew begin trying to figure what they are going to do only to get rushed down by emergency responders demanding to know just what the fuck is going on. An angry police officer starts shouting at my dad about who is in charge and he just says "I do lights." and wonders off hoping to go unnoticed.

    To be fair, it's impossible to hide our presence. We don't even have to reach out to broadcast ourselves with how active we are technologically. You'd know we have life if you're sufficiently advanced and sight in our star. The planet's atmosphere wreaks of life inside of a phosphorous rich pocket of space (which makes it a rare resource location regardless) that announces itself on every electronic frequency we know how to. Honestly, I'm a proponent of the "humans are space orcs" theory and that our planet is considered on the cusp of habitability. It takes too much energy to get things off our surface and we're ferociously adaptive and infectious. It could be reasoned that our location is well known but invariably ignored because nobody wants to meet the predators that recreationally poison themselves and who's first thought on acquiring a high yield energy source is "I bet this blows stuff up REAL good!". I wouldn't be surprised if we were a massive biohazard to any species that grew up on a sub 1g world with a relatively tame ecosystem that isn't as caught up in a genetic arms race. Anything higher than our gravity could potentially trap a species on their planet and make it near impossible to escape, especially if their atmosphere is too thick and low to the surface.These hostile environmental factors COULD be traits unique to our planet and its species. Imagine getting a whole crew sick because the capsaicin of your Taco Tuesday lunch was still on your breath, rendering the act of talking a chemical attack. But I'm only a proponent of this theory because the best explanation to the Fermi Paradox in my mind is the "zoo theory" or "quarantine theory" that suggests they know about us but intentionally avoid contact for one reason or another, intentionally keeping us ignorant to extraterrestrial life to keep themselves safe or gather data on a young species since we're not even 500,000 years old and many species can have a reign of tens of millions of years, possibly hundreds in the case of a broadly interstellar species. Otherwise, there's no reason to leave your galactic neighborhood as a young species. The other theory I give allot of credit to is the young galaxy theory, that we're among the first of this galaxies species to actually reach into the stars and it's OUR job to find THEM as younger species. The only reason to invade our planet in the first place is for its hydrocarbom biomass like coal, oil, flora and fauna or genetic information on our planet if they're interested in genetic manipulation. Then again, the biomass is easy enough to farm without going to another planet, as you only need to propogate the life on your planet using stellar material. Either way, I'm not too worried about the dark forest theory that we'll get mollywhopped for broadcasting our position. And correct me if I'm wrong, but you strike me as an Isaac Arthur subscriber.

    I remember taking astronomy in highschool as an elective and when I found out we were broadcasting our location and a bunch of other things into the galaxy I also felt that we shouldn't. Purely because I believe the odds of us being completely alone in the Universe is impossible. Probability dictates there has to be life out there, and all the building blocks to create life exist in space. Not to mention, there are other planets that exist within a habitable zone from their own stars. Much like Earth does.

    my own theory is that any other creatures out there are roundabout the same tech level as us, give or take a thousand years or so. Given the technological hurdles associated with interstellar travel, I doubt we're going to see other species anytime soon, and if we do it'd be in the form of generation ships, which would be much less likely to want smoke with another species since there would be a civilian population onboard and would be on their opponent's turf. On top of that, it would have taken them decades if not centuries to reach earth, so any reinforcements would take that long to reach us, too. Overall, the sheer amount of resources that would go into traveling between stars would probably make any alien species reluctant to risk getting their shit wrecked, meanwhile the native species would be able to absorb losses much better, having ready access to their own civilization's industrial infrastructure. Therefore, provided we don't force their hands, if bullets can kill them, they will step lightly around us.

    @@bradymenting5120 There are very likely habitable planets that have been around for a lot longer than us. Not to mention the possibility of environmental factors spurring increased technological development. For example, we made more progress during the World Wars than during all the other years from the 1850-1950, thanks to the pressing need to get an edge over the opposition in any way possible. If another species had a particularly volatile political climate, it could lead to them developing technologically much faster than us. Star Trek actually somewhat addressed this, with the Vulcans, the first alien race to contact humans, were obscenely violent for much of their history, and that could have been what allowed to them to become so advanced relative to us

  • @bradymenting5120

    @bradymenting5120

    @@filmandfirearms true, but politically volatile environments tend to have a high risk of technological regression, like when the Roman Empire collapsed and Europe fell into the Dark Ages, or through the multiple points in Chinese history when a dynasty collapses and they go from being at the front of technology, medicine, philosophy, etc. to getting bullied by the European empires due to serious technological inferiority. Overall, considering how we're nowhere near cracking FTL travel, a few thousand years probably wouldn't be enough for an alien species to develop it, and without FTL travel they'd essentially need a generation ship to reach us, and by the time they did their tech would be completely obsolete by their own standards as they'd have been traveling for many decades, if not centuries. I'm fairly certain that in that case we'd still be able to beat them, if only because they'd effectively have no reinforcements or support from their home planet, their entire military-industrial complex would need to be brought with them to support a war effort. they would then need to split their force between protecting their forward base and waging an offensive, which limits the force they'd be able to project, and making a defensive war much more viable for us. Think about how the Continental Army managed to defeat the largest military force in the world during the American War for Independence, and you get a basic idea. All in all, any species that sees us would probably just decide to mine asteroids or lifeless rocks instead of going after a single planet with life that might fight back. If they need a habitable world like Earth, a diplomatic solution would be preferable since it stands to reason that they wouldn't want to risk destroying the very environment that is the reason for attacking in the first place.

  • @filmandfirearms

    @filmandfirearms

    @@bradymenting5120 One big difference with those examples is the type of warfare present. Medieval European wars were often purely economical, and as such, were usually incredibly short. No time or real interest for any serious development there. In the case of China, their wars are often highly destructive, with one side being almost completely eradicated and the other suffering massive casualties. Meanwhile, the modern European idea of warfare is very heavily focused on assimilation. Not just crushing the enemy or taking some arbitrary piece of land, but making the enemy's country part of your own and taking their best and brightest to serve your own ends. This means that, even after a war, you still can see benefits from it, both in manpower and technological progress. I think this shift in the idea of warfare is one of the big reasons the western world is so dominant today. We certainly don't have less wars than any other part of the world, at least not so much less that it's worth discussing, but because we see it differently from the rest of the world, we stopped getting caught up in this cycle of eternal warfare and started fighting with more of a purpose

    The bit with birds is kind of interesting to me. It's weirdly consistent for a movie that could have very, very easily chosen to give the Martians no characterization whatsoever. I mean, no one would have noticed or cared. Maybe birds are so terrifying to them that the dove incident made them unbelievably offended? After realizing how easy it is to murder-ify humans, the apologies and attempts to make things right would have seemed insincere. Imagine if someone shot your parents in front of you, then started gratuitously apologizing after realizing that you had your own gun and they were out of bullets. Different people might react differently, but the groveling definitely wouldn't change your mind much about what you intended to do next. If they're a "warrior" culture with an extreme focus on honor, dignity, and respect, then a gross affront might not be something they feel that they can allow humanity to get away with.

Even if it is something super offensive you'd think they would consider maybe that offensive thing is considered a peaceful greeting and not something hostile. At the end of the day this is a evil alien movie and they needed a reason for them to attack so its either they planned on invading to begin with or the bird being released is just a weak premise to make a movie which is fine with me personally it is a comedy after all.

    My Biggest theory on why the Martians started a war on humanity was the sighting of the dove bird, which, upon being spotted by them would cause them to react violently, blast it and then turn there guns on humanity. Now the question is why? Well it could be, during the period Mars was in the goldilocks zone, Martians might have had there own version of avian or avian like species. With Martians being a much older species its obvious they would develop natural predator's, due to there smaller size by anything faster or larger than them. Why is this important? Well due to any and all reactions by Martians, upon seeing a bird, it triggers that deep primal fight or flight response all animals have, even humanity. If you look at cats with a cucumber, similar things happen, as the logical brain is override with a deep down genetic code to run away with your life or fight it off with all your might. The Entire war could have been started due to Martians finding out that there deep primal Predator that plagued them thousands of years ago was still alive and well, and that scared them.

Whatever happens to find them might interpret this as a threat or claim that's what it is to get the rest of their species on board with an interstellar war. Another possibility is that somehow what we sent them is hazardous to them. Go read SCP-328 to get a better idea of what I'm trying to explain.

    To be fair when it comes to Voyager it's very unlikely it would be the reason we were found by another race. On its current trajectory it will be over 40000 years before it even passes by another system and even then not only do all signs point to the system being dead but the aliens would have to be in the EXACT right place to intercept Voyager since it isn't really passing through the system so much as cosmically near it. From there it'll be millions of years before it passes another solar system and probably a lot longer than that to pass one that actually has the potential to be inhabited. *tl'dr* - We're doing a lot of other things here on Earth that are more likely to point out there's a techno signature here to any potential invaders than Voyager ever will, by the time Voyager is actually intercepted we'll either be long gone of our own accord or so advanced that finding it basically tells them nothing of us.

    A point to think about in regards to the dark forest solution is that regardless of broadcasts an advanced civilization will need to broadcast it's presence pure due to energy consumption (Nothing is 100% efficient so you there will always be waste heat). Granted we are talking about k2(ish) civilization. How ever any one who makes it that far will bleed increasing amounts of Infra Red radiation into the dark. So any civilization looking for possible threats would check stars and cross reference expected IR emissions compared to detected emissions. If they detect a discrepancy then shooting a shotgun blast of rocks at C-fractional velocities would almost certainly be a meaningless amount of energy for this possible civilization. We are also looking for such IR discrepancies and haven't seen any that would indicate a K2-3 class civilization so. \_'.'_/ IDK, we're either doomed from the get go or the first to emerge.

    Thank you for referencing the ultra-obscure CG cartoon I watched when I was like 12. IIRC, that never got a conclusive ending, and was just cancelled without a word.

    The fact that someone else remembers the BKM Butt Ugly Martians makes me so unreasonably happy. Sometimes I think that show was just a fever dream.

    you didn't mention why they would have a weakness to the music, like the fact their brain is out of their skull would make them venerable to sonic weapons

    This movie us so anachronistic in terms of how the army is stuck in like 1950 but everyone else dresses like a combo of the 70s & 90s it was like a fever dream to watch the first time over.

    I think Jack Black's character had already went through basic and he was back home as sometimes you get a little break between graduating basic and going to your M.O. school. In which you can go back home if you want.

    That B.U.M. reference blindsided me. I had to refresh my memory by looking up what they look like on the internet. I wish I hadn't. Early 2k kid's tv show cgi really was something else...

    I actually remember seeing this at a drive-in when it came out! I think I was around 9 or 10. You would tune in on your radio to a specific channel for the audio I don’t know why but Audio that played after the credits stuck with me. That was a memory this video dug up!
