In the beginning Su-min never had to be smart. She relied on Ji-won giving in to whatever she does. We see her spiraling out of control realizing she no longer has that connect with or power over Ji-won. She's not dumb. She just never had to use intelligence. She was able to just manipulate their connection.

It's a testament of how good of an actress she is. She is so effective that you give the very reaction writers want you to elicit from her character. They want you to hate her to the core and you're doing it. We all do. 😊

The thing with Sumin is that she didn't have to be lonely. Jiwon was always there for her. Instead of accepting Jiwon as her friend and using her love to feel better, she chose to use Jiwon. Sumin just wants to feel superior. She has to have Jiwon because she was easy to take down. Making Jiwon a 'loser' makes sumin automatically a 'winner' without actually having to do a lot. She also has a very unhealthy obsession with her. They had a similar home situation so sumin needed jiwon as a reassurance. Seeing jiwon suffer made her feel better. Also, what's interesting is that all of sumins manipulations and craziness in the past life were in secret. She never showed jiwon that she took everything away from her, but it was enough for sumin to know for herself that she was 'winning' (even though jiwon never even knew there was a game) This may sound weird but I really like sumin's character. She's so different from usual villains. She's jealous and wants everything jiwon has, even if it's trash, because no matter what it is, it looks better when jiwon has it. Minwhan could have been replaced with any other guy and sumin would still have done what she did. She also never loved and never will love because her obsession with jiwon is taking up too much space in her heart. There is so much going on with her, but I'll stop here because this comment is too long and it's difficult to say everything in english for me. Thanks so much for the reaction as always!!🫶🏼

i love how the boys are so into the show also the discussion right at the end too was very good!! that analogy about the fire and wood definitely represent Sumin and Jiwon very well. The worst thing about Sumin is she doesn't empathize with the fact that Jiwon would eventually get tired of how she's been treating her or having to deal with her - or just like fire she will burn the wood until there's none left to burn, which was what happened in the first timeline. can't wait for you guys to watch the rest. it's been so enjoyable rewatching it with you 3 😁

intelligence wise, Soo-min never had to work hard on that bc she had the emotional leash on Ji-won to get her what she wants. sort of like, "Ji-won I want that. If you really love me you'll get me that won't you. Go think of a way to get me that then." and then she'll just sit back and wait it to be handed out to her. But now that flipping leash had been obliterated, Ji-won is rediscovering and recovering herself, and intellegently, emotionally, and psychologically standing on her own; cutting off Soo-min access to all of Ji-won innate brilliance. Soo-min has no need for discipline, structure, moral, and wit before; she had other person to do that for her. But now without Ji-won's discipline and structure, Soo-min is only running on instinct and desire at this point againts a completely different Ji-won. 16:10 even though she's repulsed and feels unsafe with her, Ji-won needs to know where Soo-min at all time to navigate around and through Soo-min's shenanigans.

sumin calculated the whole letters thing because the last ep she tested that if she jumps into the deep end (the lake), Ji Won will still try to jump in and save her. it showed in last episode how happy she was after ji won jumps in when she was talking to min hwan in his room asking him its his turn to make her happy.

If I was to use your analogy that sumin is fire and jiwon is wood, and that sumin needs another wood to burn i.e being mihwan. I don’t think that Mihwan is going to be wood for Sumin. I think that Mihwan would be someone that gets affected by her but not really damaged. If I was to put him like an element I would say he is ‘metal’ he’ll get heated up by her, but depending on the type of metal he won’t really get destroyed that much. But may be bent. Since he’s trash too. (I.e from the conversation on the Terrrace.) P.s Watching guys reactions, on K dramas is interesting. Because your perspectives on things are completely different it’s also cool, funny and intriguing to see how invested you are into it - like us - and come up with theories on your honest reactions to the shows. I love that you are enjoying this drama!!! As someone who has read the webtoon novel that inspired this I love the routes and storytelling that they took and they kept the characters they same with little tweaks here and there for the sake of reintroducing this story but overall this drama is EVERYTHING!!!! Soomin always acts as the victim that she is fragile needing to protect her. Remember during outdoor game she cut her finger to get sympathy, when she jumped in the water jiwon saved her so she knows in the end jiwon comes back to her if she is in danger but this time she didn’t that’s why she’s like why? She’s literally that toxic partner that says if you leave I will hurt myself or kill myself forcing them to be with them and they think they can get away with anything because their partner will always love them since they don’t leave them but they don’t realize it’s not love and eventually the other person will get tired of it. I think jiwon would take the fall for her and say she was the one who wrote it or she would forgive her because she’s suffering due to the cheating scandal.
