This video helped me understand the meaning of this song. When I first heard this song, I thought he was literally at a Payphone like showed in the video. But now I know that "Payphone" is a visual metaphor used to explain that the "Payphone" is Adam trying to CALL back meomories as if that word was a name in his contacts. He hung up on "Meomories" when he and his girl broke up. Now he wants to call them back to remember his girl. You use a Payphone to call people obviously and Adam is looking to contact "Meomories" so he can remember his love he had for this girl and all the fun they had. The "Change" he is talking about is the time he spent with his girl. .."All of the change I spent on you..". That line could be reffering to time because Adam thinks he wasted time with this girl the way you waste money when you call someone using a Payphone. These 2 words are putting a visual in the listeners mind to refer to what Adam is singing about and what Adam is feeling. He uses these words to create a metaphor as I mentioned earlier. Payphone is to contacting Meomory as Change is to wasted time.

I remembered watching and listening to this song on television in my childhood. And when I'm tried to search for this song, I literally type 'Iphone lyrics' on yt because I just remembered 'phone', not 'payphone' 😭😂

When we used to listen songs on TV those were golden days.

The fact that back in the past it was no smartphone makes this song more powerful and reminiscent of the same experience as those who have gone through at that sweet moment

I was in a long distance relationship. When this song was released, I sent this video to my first love. I used to sing this song for her over phone. And now she is no more in my life and all I can do now is just feel the meaning of this song in her memories which will never come back. Time flies. Life changes so badly. :)

this song has a lot of meaning

I remember when I was about 7, my mom would always have this play on her phone. I liked it the first time I heard it. Mom said they're not that famous but trust me they'll be so famous when you grow up. And I just doubted it. I remember jamming to this everyday, now stuff has changed and now look where they're now. And yes now me and my mom don't get enough time to jam to old songs. Man!! I just miss those old times and memories 😢
