The Eucharist in the Maronite mass is always chanted in Aramaic, regardless of what the mass language is (Aramaic, Arabic, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.). Below is the English translation: On the day before his life-giving passion, Jesus took bread in his holy hands. He blessed, sanctified, broke, and gave it to his disciples saying: Take and eat it, all of you: This is my body which is broken and delivered for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Amen Likewise he blessed the cup of wine mixed with water, sanctified, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and drink from it, all of you: This is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed and handed over for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Amen Below is the transliteration in Latin alphabet with English accent. Remember, some letters in Aramaic have no equivalent in English or Latin. I hope it will help people who asked for it. WOW, does this bring back wonder-filled memories from the mid 1970s...not being Lebanese, I learned enough Aramaic from Fr. Joe Thomas at Archangel Michael Maronite Church, Fayetteville, NC, to be their organist and cantor. I still remember the words of consecration. Unfortunately, I live in west Texan, no Maronite parish close. Thank You, Fr. Joe Thomas for teaching me a little bit of what Jesus spoke.

Lebanon is next to the Nation of Israel in history and the language of Aramaic survived as a result. Plus Arabic came as an offshoot of Aramaic. Jesus Christ and his followers and Apostles went to Lebanon and spread the word of God to the Phoenicians. Before the Civil War back in the 1970s, Lebanon was a Christian majority with 70% - 85% with strong adherents who does church every week. After the civil war, many of them fled. The majority went to Latin America and others to Europe. With the civil unrest in Syria. Lebanon received so many Syrian refugees which pushed out the native Maronites. Lebanon is now a Muslim country with 60% Muslims and 20% Christians.

@@arolemaprarath3248 I don’t disagree with you my Father was born in Colombia by Lebanese parents who are part diaspora. But Lebanese kept there culture, language and religious customs alive. They even retained Christian Lebanese & Arabic names. My Father is Maronite and they returned to Lebanon. Yes Lebanon is majority made now of Muslims but not 20% Christianity. It’s more 40% with Maronite holding 25%. But regardless of that Muslims & Christian groups live in neutrally together. That means they accept one another but deep down they are one people. Muslim segments still perform homage to Maronite masses like Christmas & Easter plus Eid Mar Charbel. All Muslims know about this saint. I know of Muslims who baptised there children in Maronite Church. It was because they know healing power of God exists in the Church of Christ.

@@clevelandwilliams5922 I super agree with you. However, I have to disagree where you said Christians and Muslims neutrally live together side by side. Some do but mostly don't. Muslim sects like the Shi'ites are somewhat hostile towards the Maronites. There are some cases where Shi'ites refused to cooperate with the Maronites let alone cooperating with the Sunn'is. There are still divisions in Lebanon where Ethnic-Religious Lebanese are separated. With the recent tragedy, at least most them finally see a bigger picture and put their differences aside to fight the corrupted government. Fun fact: Majority of Lebanese politicians are Christians, almost half are Muslims. As for now, Lebanon is a Muslim-majority country but it will change as soon as Lebanon stabilised; also, a lot of Muslim Lebanese covert to Christianity daily. So yes, Lebanon has a better future with Christianity.

Plus yes I am aware of hostility but they lived together for 1500 years and so they will continue to live with one another. Plus Middle East is going through a cycle in Iran they have the largest Muslim convention to Christ. So I will leave it in the hands of the Lord. But in the end when the Temple is in the process of being rebuilt, the true church not a building by the way the Body of Christ will be raptured to be part of Supper of the Lamb

It’s useful to follow along. Even with curtains and iconostases, many of the Eastern Liturgies (Byzantine, Syriac and beyond) have usually said/chanted the Words of Institution out loud and even in a vernacular or understandable composite tongue. This is also useful for people unfamiliar with the liturgy to know what’s going on because of the different postures. Imagine, for example, someone seeing a Tridentine Mass and thinking that the minor elevation was the Words of Institution. Also, many Eastern Christians maintain the idea that the anaphora as a whole (the Canon as its referred to in the Roman Rite) is consecratory, as certain Divine Liturgies do not contain the Words of Institution as such.

The Maronite rite itself is pretty old, but unfortunately it has been quite Latinized, which is why it looks now like an eastern Novus Ordo mass in a lot of places.

We (maronites) actually became more traditional after Vatican II, from what I understand a lot of Eastern churchs were encouraged to go back to their roots.

for those who complain (below) about celebrant facing the people this is the way the liturgy was celebrated for 1000 years...in the West the altars were pushed to the walls since few understood Latin and the liturgy increasingly became a spectacle rather than a communal act. there are still altars in early churches in Rome free-standing and elsewhere. In the East altars in all denominations are free-standing but the celebrants have back to the people. You think Jesus at table turned his back on his apostles to face the wall? and they did not recline as Romans in formal banqueting manner. FYI the Novus Ordo Missae of Paul VI is closer in style to the Mass of early Church. The Roman Rite was very spare and became Gallicanized and increasingly elaborate over the centuries. It was and is beautiful but had become a pastiche. Complaints about it are rightly directed to sloppy celebrations.

Even if that were true it would be irrelevant. In liturgics that is the fallacy of antiquarianism, that earlier = better. This is false; the liturgy is organic and develops through the ages. Medieval developments in the liturgy are organic and good. This is confirmed by theologians and liturgists such as then-Cardinal Ratzinger and Dom Alcuin Reid. The Novus Ordo is NOT organic. In the words of then-Cardinal Ratzinger, the Novus Ordo is a "banal on-the-spot product; a fabrication."

The Tridentine Mass is Christ-centered, the Novus Ordo is man-centered. The priest faces ad orientem for many rich symbolic reasons. He is facing East, which symbolizes where God is and from whence Christ will return. He faces Christ in the tabernacle and the crucifix. When he talks to God, he faces God. When he talks to the people, he turns around to talk to them i.e. Dominus vobiscum or the homily.

I'd like to see primary evidence for this, please, because I do not believe it. If it were true, then the Eastern Orthodox Churches would not have always celebrated the Divine Liturgy ad orientem.

@@KevinBeach2 It seems no coincidence to me that every rite in Christendom has their Liturgy ad orientem, either traditionally (Latins, Maronites, Syro Malabar, etc) or just never changed (Byzantine Rite, Syro Malankara, etc)
