    I think if you use this stuff with a ball cleaning machine, the results will be much more spectacular. I'm basing this comment on my own experiences with my own equipment - the difference between dirty or freshly cleaned pool balls is vast. Happy to send you a video..

    I used to clean the cue ball a couple of decades ago but this is the first time I've seen anyone else talk about it. Professional tables have clean balls anyway so it won't make much difference but in some clubs, the cue ball can be quite greasy. People eat crisps and nuts etc and then handle the cue ball, ( and if they play like me it's in the pocket every few shots and being handled a lot!) and keeping it clean with alcohol wipes or similar makes a significant improvement when screwing back, well worth it. I never bother cleaning the colours though.

    I find these type of cleaners roll even further if polished then left for a few hours. I hit the white ball down the spots with my cue straight after cleaning, yet if I clean the balls and leave them a few hours, the white will travel about half a table more leading me to think that the polish needs to dry completely to get the best out of cleaning them.

    Quick shortcut for cleaning the balls. If you put the triangle on a towel and place half of the balls in it, you can spray those balls and rub then over with another towel. The triangle will stop them escaping during the cleaning process. It's very quick, and you can repeat the process with a dry towel if you want to make sure they're extra dry. I'll make a short video at some point to demo it, and send you the link.

    I made a ball cleaner with two buckets and an electric car polisher ,very small spray of silicon free pledge and the balls are like new and behave perfectly .its also a good idea to have 3 or 4 cue balls and rotate them every few days ,your set will last longer as the cue ball takes all the punishment.

    I thought we all knew that clean balls play better than dirty balls, the real question is how well does it clean balls compared to other alternatives. Does it clean them better or faster or with less work than the $5 cleaner or the $20 cleaner or just a damp cloth? I'm assuming you probably cleaned your balls with something else before you got this, I certainly clean my balls fairly regularly, was there any difference between what you used then and this new cleaner? Or do you just buy new balls when your balls get so covered in chalk and finger oil you can't tell what color they are?

    I use Aramith ball cleaner and restorer. I find after a relatively short time it’s very difficult to get really any action on the ball, especially seeing any effect of side off distant cushions. Once polished up everything works “like on the telly”. I guess this says a lot about my lack of skill though.

    Interesting test - you could make the test more rigorous by having a friend clean two sets of balls and NOT tell you which one was cleaned and then do your tests and try to figure out which set was spared. This would be a single-blind test. Your friend will break the balls into colors and 3 groups of five. This gives you 8 groups: 4 cleaned with the MW cleaner and 4 without. Play your shots and then note what you think - and after you are done, "uncode" and see if the difference was predictable.

    I think the proper tests to be making is not between uncleaned balls, but between balls cleaned with the expensive solution versus balls that were just wiped with a damp cloth or cleaned with a mild solution of dish soap.

  • @colincolenso
    @colincolenso Жыл бұрын

    You can get silicon spray much cheaper at a hardware store. Keep in mind that it reduces friction off the rails also, so the effect of side-spin is reduced and the Cue Ball will slide off the rails more. Eventually it will spread to the cloth and rails and takes about a week to go back to normal.

    These tests could've used blind bag test - could be (unintentional) bias from knowing. I am not saying it has to happen but coudl the creator get new kitten as "the audience" ? i am very much cat person and enjoyed the nonsequitor kitty content. Its all little hazy and minimalist, i reckon player's general skills are going to be benefitting more from practice than spray.

    My guess is it's silicone spray, which professional trick shot players have been using for decades. I've used it. huge increases in screw. e.g. I've pottted a red at pink spot from the D and screwed up and down to where the red was. About 2.5 times further than any screw shot this guy has ever performed.

    I think it's snake oil. I don't think there is any doubt that cleaner balls are better than dirty balls. But the real test is whether cleaning with Mark Williams' homeopathic mixture is better than cleaning with a soft cloth. I would say the difference would be pretty much imperceptible but if Mark wants to send me a free bottle to prove me wrong 😀
