Mark Skaife driving Perkins Engineering PE 045 at Winton Motor Raceway 2007

During the 2007 V8Supercar Championship Series Perkins Engineering (also known as Jack Daniel's Racing) ran two Rookie Drivers in Shane Price and Jack Perkins. Thanks to GM Holden, Mark Skaife made himself available to drive the #7 Jack Daniel's Racing VE Commodore PE 045, in an effort to help out the two rookies extracting more speed from the cars and indeed themselves.

    100% Mat K. Those were the best days of the Supercars. Today it is getting very boring and set to become even more boring. All the greats of the sport have retired or moved on and it's a bunch of nobodies with no personality now. Lowndes, Skaife, Seton, Jim Richards, Bargwana, Bowe, Crompton, Radisich, Ambrose, Murphy, Jones, and of course Larry Perkins !! Those were the days.

    @@matk4731 Amen to that mate ! Now they want to go to stupid flappy paddles. Supercars is finished in my mind. I have VHS tapes of all racing rounds starting from the year 2001. The first year Lowndes defected to Ford coincidentally, and I wish I started taping them earlier on. Nonetheless, I can always go back and watch all the best racing action whenever I want. I hope to have my tapes digistized someday too.

    @mabuhayimplottingyourdemis423 yes they use a stick still but it's not a H pattern shift. As far as nostalgia goes, I was lucky enough to grow up with the Brock's, Moffat, Johnson, Richards, Grice when they were at their peak, I was a Brock fan, right up through to now. Today is is sterile, the drivers have next to no personality or charisma, nothing like brock Johnson, lowndes, murphy, etc..supercars it self is a shadow of what it once was. It started to decline from around 2013. It's not Nostalgia, it's just a fact.

    I feel like a transition back to "H" pattern gearboxes may go a long way to addressing fans' feelings that the cars no longer represent a "stock" car. If Murphy can do a 2.06 at Bathurst using an "H" pattern box they aren't exactly slow.

  • @perkinsengineering

    @perkinsengineering

    2 жыл бұрын

    Oh 100%. The problem with H pattern in the end was the drivers were too quick with say 3rd to 4th gear. They would smash the dogs off the front side of 4th gear and they would be shagged after say 400km. With the Holinger sequential, through the barrel engagement the drivers couldn’t beat the shift and gears would wear out at 2000-3000km not the dogs
