As a software engineer, I can say for the people who are not part of our world, that we as developers almost uniformly consider game developers to be rock-stars, like people don't how how ridiculously difficult it is to make it troughs in that world, like it's already pretty hard to become a developer, but to be a game developer at a AAA studio, you really have to be a top tier developer, because for every job offer in that field, there's literally hundreds of people that want the job. They work with low level programming language, on very abstract and precise code, that has to run perfectly, (aka they have a literally a ms budget) because everything that the game does has to fit in less than x milliseconds). On top of that they have to do just that across the network. To give you an image if the first part was akin to building a car from scratch, the second part is doing just that but blindfolded with only your teeth to hold the tools. So really guys give them some slack, because if they say they need time, believe them, because they do.

just my 2cents, I do a lot of testing on software from developers, and basically give go aheads for changes to be implemented after testing. the environment works exactly like he explained. you can test as much as you want, but things often slip through...bugs, glitches and so on!! a lot of times other things break even though they are not even worked on in that patch. You cannot ever have a product 100% tested between patches and roll outs...there are so many ways things can break.

Yes, frame rate issues is not something covert that you can miss, these issues are obvious on the first round of testing and the fact that it slipped through is just baffling.

I think they could benefit from a public test realm bc as much as a few hundred can catch bugs that slip through, that cant compare to having thousands participate in a test, they could get a lot of feedback between patches and improve faster, sadly it probably would be pc only bc console makes devs jump through hoops

As someone who does support for enterprise software, it's also the case that internal lab testing will never be able to totally match customer environments.

The new patch solves 80-90% of the frame issues but you still get frame drops in the middle of a gunfight and it's enough to ruin the entire game when it happens too frequently

I'm on the xbox series x. Luckily, I haven't experienced any frame drops at all. I'm on a cat 8 wired connection so maybe that's why but when I play cod every few games I get severe lag but on Xdefiant I have absolutely no issues. Not sure if that's the same thing as what you're saying but that's my experience with the game anyway lol

Chances are that things went completely smooth when they test these updates and everything looked fixed. There are too many unforseen things that can happen that are out of the developers control when the updates go live. At least with this development team, they are completely transparent and actually work hard to fix these unforseen problems. They have given me confidence that it will be sorted sooner rather than later. Later being months away, which they have already proven it doesn't take them that long. It could still be a week or two away yet, but that's not long on the scale of things.

Big W to Mark here. He’s been crushing it on Twitter. It must be great to be on a dev team where the big guy is on Twitter defending your team and demolishing the peanut gallery. Big props to mark, we don’t see this in modern day gaming anymore. Main reason I love this game is because I know it’s going to get better. Bugs will get fixed, things will be balanced, added, etc.

Pre season was a good run mid way I took a break because of hit reg and other bugs bought the rest of the pass couldn’t find the time casue of work and season 1 been having a blast feels better runs better than pre season probably my favorite F2P game of the year I’m completely hype forward of this game

XDefiant won’t be a good game until 2027 the way they begging for patience. They made a big deal about it being a cod killer so now u have to fill those shoes and they can’t and they mad the fans are holding them accountable. The game is just broken !!! They did nothing to fix this game. Even notable KZreadRS with bigger platforms are calling them out because S1 is horrendous and the game OVERALL is infested with cheaters and hacks.

The reason I stuck around from the beginning is there's no algorithm in the background and the devs communicate constantly Yes there are things that need to be improved but the game is free and it's just came out a month ago so things need to be worked out it will get better That's just my opinion

Are you playing with input based matchmaking turned on? I still haven't tried playing xdefiant on m&k but the aim assist isn't super strong on controller compared to some other modern fps games. So I think I might play better with a mouse. I just haven't tried it yet cause I have my laptop plugged into the tv and haven't felt like moving the setup. But I'm curious how it is with input based matchmaking turned off. Like whether or not it tells you the input method other players are using and if it feels like m&k has an advantage against controller players in xdefiant or a disadvantage. Or if it feels like they're on par.

I'm on PS5 and play at 120hz and it's improved but not fixed. I was wondering why I was getting such fast kills but then I would unload a whole clip into someone's face and not even get a hit marker and then have someone just look at me from across the map and I get instakilled. But it is still much much better.

And btw, yesterday (6 Jul) they were bold enough to redirect players to their staging environment (at least in EU)

Imo they should've kept polishing the game before releasing it to the public, BUT they did this so they could get feedback from real players and not just their tester team. They can collect data and fix as the game goes on. I am patiently waiting to touch the game, because I want it to be fixed first before playing

100 devs compared to at least a million players. Who's has a higher chance of seeing a bug first? People are idiots for not thinking bugs slip through. Tears of the Kingdom was in development for 7 years by one of the most experienced gaming developers on the planet and still needed 3 patches within the first month. No game is flawless. Any speedrunner will find a gamebreaking glitch. MW2 2009 had a rock on fuel that you could glitch into and shoot people from. It happens in every game, that's why there's a patch

120herts has always been fine on ps5. 60 is completely unplayable on large maps I’ve noticed. Clubhouse being the worst imo Love the game but hopefully everything gets fixed for everyone

i agree with what most of mark rubin said about the pipeline of finding a bug and getting MS or Sony to schedule your patch to that bug, but he's lying about not being able to test the game in a retail setting. There are ways they could be testing the game in a retail setting COD is notorious for sending out split or forked updates which is why sometimes you'll see stuff in the store that isn't supposed to be out yet but only a fraction of the players saw the item in the store on the same day. Or the fact they can send individuals different playlists such as the WSOW depending on if you meet other criteria such as signing up at the specified time on game battles or faceit. Or your game will be updating every time you close it and there's no prepatch scheduled for everyone. what the community is suggesting or asking this team to do is not an impossible feat and other games have similar where they have what's called a public test realm in the genre of mmorpgs. For mark to not acknowledge that as an industry veteran was dishonest. There are ways you can fork updates so that only a limited number of people can test it on the retail environment and this honestly SHOULD be the last check they do before they petition Sony or MS to post the update to everyone. It may take more time but they would be working in the commercial environment. I work in pharma where you can't release something to the public only testing and developing it in a R&D environment. its production has to be tested in a manufacturing environment as well as tested on a large population of people before the FDA (would be analogous to MS/ Sony) allow you to release it to the masses. His job as a veteran in the industry and a director and leader is to develop such a strategy and do it i in a timely manner. So he did lie and i in fact don't blame the community for being up his and his team's asses. In general a lot of game devs are very very entitled or smug. They never worked in other high pressure environments like pharma or aviation where you have to really check your stuff before it goes out and it needs to meet strict deadlines like launch windows that are a few hours of viable time and months in between the next viable window, or putting out a drug so its on the market X amount of years before its patent expires and your only opportunity to really make back all of the money sunk into its development. The majority of the community doesn't know the ins and outs of the game development cycle but people can just tell when someone isn't REALLY exhausting all options or trying to improve the over all process of development and that is what makes them angry. Just forcing people to work more on holidays isn't an excuse . There's a problem with their bug fixing process if there's whole bugs getting through that make the game not playable for an entire group. That's an efficacy problem in your process.

We have to acknowledge that fiixing these issues takes time. It's true most gamers, myself included, have zero understanding how game development and troubleshooting works. Ultimately though, the netcode and hit reg is still dogshit. The spiderbots, which were already inasnely unbalanced., just got even worse in S1. There are so many iissues and bugs it's hard to stay patient and enjoy the game at times. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember too many AAA titles that were this hotlyy anticipated, having so many major issues after release. I wanted so much to love this game, after becoming disenchanted with COD's pay to win, DLC driven clusterf#ck of a franchise. It can be really fun and has so much potential, but it feels like it will ultimately fall short due to ongoing problems. When I return to COD, as much as I hate to admit it, it's immediately obvious how inferiror the mechanics are in XD. Its great that the Dev's are listening, but when are we going to see meaningful changes, i.e. netcode and hit reg. The community has only so much patience before they move on.

This level of communication we've gotten since the launch of this game is non-existent in 2024. My hat is off to Mark Rubin & the XDefiant team for their passion & dedication to giving us the best product we can have with this game. Ask any game developer how difficult it is constructing a new netcode is and watch how they take you through the process. Hey guess what. If you dont like it, uninstall the “free game”. Your not obligated to it by no means. “Time is money”. Sure. And? You can easily get that time back by uninstalling and doing something else. Trust me the netcode, hit reg, all the different bugs and glitches may not come over night, but you getting back the 1-2 hours you spent on this game is 100 percent achieveable. Just don’t play it and use that 1-2 hours on something else. See, i fixed your problem.

I want the game to succeed, ive put 70+ hours into the game i really enjoy it but as ps5 player i was shocked to see them fuck up season 1 for us and i cant play it till next week. I already bought the season pass and was hyped for it but this is unacceptable. I hope they get it fixed next week and this should not be a thing going on forward for xdef devs, we can live with small bugs here and there but this is not small bug i cant play at all

I wish there was a no ability play list, my only gripe :p

Every game had cheaters and the game is far from ruined. U either suck at the game, play with trash friends, have no friends to play with or need to grow the fuk up and understand that gaming is not that serious. its always the sony cry babies that cry about things that they have no clue about, i play pc and my frames have dropped by half i used to run 200 fps now i only run 100 fps im not bothered by it. if the cry babies that play on a sony device then play another game go and enjoy call of duty then as them games for the past couple of years have been created for the playstation devices due to their input delay compared to the xbox delay it actually better and more responsive. yeah people are going to get butt hurt with this comment but its the truth people are crying about everything and anything nowadays its childish as hell. we have a fun game i enjoy it and so does alot of others just a small amount of players need to do research before crying about something they have no understanding on how things work.

the sweats are really the only thing holding this game back for me. not having sbmm does make it easier to lobby surf for good matches. if they could just remove the ability to shoot your gun while jumping or spam crouching, that would be perfect.

Mark is well aware that this is a recurring issue and has stated that this is being fixed several times already. Look at something like Halo for example, where it took the developers about 3 years to properly fix the net code. It’s also kind of infuriating that most of this “fanbase” has rushed this game to come out of it’s beta and fully release and then complains that the game is not in it’s ultimate version. You also installed this game for free so you didn’t lose any money so stop complaining because it’s not going to make this situation any better than it already is.

This is why Xdefiant will succeed and COD will fail….great communication with the community and they are on top of the issues…now the only thing they need to be careful with are the cheaters…hopefully they can keep the same mentality with cheaters as they do the game as a whole…I’ve done seen videos out where people are running into cheaters in ranked…could be bogus who knows but I truly hope Xdefiant devs are more on top of cheaters than anyone else is out there right now!
